Ike Baker Velten is known for distinctive design rooted in tradition but modern in its sculptural forms, taught detailing, glass expanses, and often a touch of whimsy. We collaborate with our clients, craftspeople, and colleagues to produce personalized living environments as well as the occasional public building that receives the same level of intimate detailing. We realize our projects through traditional handicraft and cutting-edge processes. We are a small collaborative team who love what we do and how we do it, and we are currently looking for an Architectural Designer to join us.

An Architectural Designer at Ike Baker Velten plays an incredibly vital role in the development and successful realization of our projects by helping contribute, coordinate, and execute a design we develop together. This multifaceted role combines the creative skills and expertise of architectural design with the organizational skills of project coordination to ensure the quality of our work…and have fun in the process. 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning:

  • Support Senior Architects and Principals in project coordination and management of design teams working together towards developing detailed project plans, executing project goals, objectives, scope, and deliverables based on established timelines and budgets.

Design Development:

  • Execute designated tasks assigned by the Project Manager and Principal in Charge while learning how they fit into the bigger picture eventually being able to anticipate upcoming project milestones and needs throughout the architectural design process.
  • Research local building codes and regulations to ensure compliance and design
  • Coordinate with the design team, including interior designers, engineers, vendors, and contractors.

Project Work:

  • Assist on all phases of the project including planning, design development, project progression, consultant coordination, and assurance of design integrity in construction.
  • Provide Project Manager regular project work updates and communicate any delays in production.
  • Proactively reach out to Project Manager and/or Principal for direction and feedback to project work.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and comprehensive project documentation including drawings, notes, and correspondence.

Quality Control & Sustainability:

  • Learn and follow company standards and quality assurance processes, making sure to communicate any suggested changes to them to help keep them effective and current.
  • Attend periodic site inspections to develop CA technical design skills.
  • Practice and promote sustainable design and construction practices wherever possible.
  • Stay current with and share knowledge of architectural trends, technologies, and innovations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of architecture
  • Conversant in high-end residential construction techniques, i.e. wood frame construction, masonry construction, commercial metal framing also a plus.
  • Proficiency in architectural and rendering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Working towards licensure is a plus.
  • Local applicants preferred.
