The UVA School of Architecture (www.arch.virginia.edu) seeks exceptional candidates who employ the medium of architecture to investigate pressing social, cultural, technical, and environmental issues to join the faculty at the rank of Assistant Professors of Architecture, tenure track in the fall of 2024. We invite accomplished designer-practitioners with research and design experience across scales and typologies to develop their creative practice, research, and pedagogy at UVA.  Successful candidates will join us as disciplinary leaders educating the next generation of architects.  We welcome collaborators who share our commitment to implementing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion goals leading toward a more equitable institution, practice, and constructed environment.

The School of Architecture and UVA promote and facilitate design excellence and impact by encouraging cross-disciplinary research and collaboration and by supporting research development, from seed funding to external grant support. Researchers and designers work across the school and the university on grand challenges and pan-university research initiatives. Recently renovated studios, shop facilities, and project spaces provide state-of-the-art facilities for design research, computation, and fabrication.

We seek colleagues with versatility to teach at multiple levels of the design curriculum, to participate in cross-disciplinary curricular initiatives, and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in architecture. Teaching opportunities enable faculty to both translate broad expertise and to investigate specialized topics through foundational studios, courses, and elective seminars.

Tenure-track candidates will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor and must exhibit potential to develop or show evidence of a rigorous design research agenda, excellence in teaching, and leadership capacity. Applicant backgrounds may range from academia and/or practice and should display interest in pursuing a body of research or creative work in a full-time, residential position at the Assistant Professor level. Successful candidates for this position must have a terminal degree in Architecture (MArch) or a comparable degree in a related field.  Licensure and/or an advanced degree in an area of specialization are encouraged.  Tenure-track faculty members at UVA are expected to teach, develop curriculum in collaboration with school leadership, serve on academic committees, work collaboratively with faculty and staff in support of student success, and pursue an agenda of high-profile design research, scholarship, or creative production.
