The Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC) is a multidisciplinary, nonprofit design center based in the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture and Community Development. DCDC exists to bring high-quality and community-engaged design to all neighborhoods in Detroit. We do this by engaging, educating and promoting equity in design processes and outcomes. We work with community partners citywide on a range of projects at different scales, prioritizing participation in the planning and design process with the belief that local expertise leads to the best ideas and solutions.

The University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) has been awarded a Department of Energy (DOE) Renew America’s Nonprofits grant. The grant was made possible through the Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), and it aims to:

• Reduce energy use and energy cost in nonprofit buildings, generating sustainable savings that can amplify nonprofits’ community impacts.
• Lower emissions, reducing community exposure to pollutants and putting America on a path to a net-zero energy economy by 2050.
• Promote a nonprofits-supporting-nonprofits model, laying the groundwork for a pipeline of energy and cost-saving projects to continue beyond the life of the grant.

DCDC in partnership with the College of Engineering and Science will improve the energy efficiency of 13 nonprofit-owned buildings located in Detroit, Highland Park and Hamtramck over 4 years. UDM Engineering Faculty and students will do energy audits and building models and DCDC will manage the initiative and work with nonprofit, subrecipients to help them implement energy upgrades. Focus: HOPE, a Detroit-based nonprofit organization offering workforce development programs that prepare individuals for successful careers, is also an initiative partner. They will train individuals in their pre-construction program and connect them to contractors who will be working on the energy improvement projects.

DCDC is seeking an individual to direct and manage the overall initiative for the 4-year grant period.  The Project Director for the Department of Energy (DOE) UDM Sustaining Service Organizations initiative will be responsible for the day-to-day direction and management of all DOE related grant activities and DCDC general office administration.

Full time, salaried with benefits
$60,000 to $75,900 annual salary, depending on experience
Computer and software provided

Qualifications:
2 plus years of professional experience in architecture
Strong project management skills and some project management experience a plus
Experience and/or interest in energy efficient building upgrades
Experience collaborating with and leading work with multiple partners
Familiar with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
