Workshop/APD is an award-winning New York City-based multidisciplinary design and architecture firm. We are currently seeking a full-time Director with at least 10-15 years of design experience on landscape architectural design projects where he/she can be the leader of the creative process. This individual will work on and lead a full range of assignments in the delivery of all landscape architecture project phases and construction administration.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Design, develop, modify and review drawings landscape architecture projects
Collaborate with principals in concept development and research and business development
Design and review preliminary site plans and concept level development packages
Prepare schematic, design development and construction documents for projects
Work with construction and landscape management divisions with all landscape architecture related issues
Prepare graphics and illustrative materials to present to community organizations and planning/design commissions
Resolve conditions of approval with Municipal agencies and local utility companies
Prepare, review, and approve landscape architecture deliverables consistent with Workshop's quality control protocols
Serve as a project manager on planning and construction projects
Train and provide professional mentorship to landscape architecture staff and/or others within the organization
Establish a design studio with team of landscape designer
Effectively communicate with clients and engineers on all components of executing a project
Act as an inspector and plan reviewer
Ensure adherence to approved budgets and that project/department milestones/goals are met
Oversee the development of exterior spaces and physical environments
Develop site and landscape plans, 3D renderings, prepare estimates, order material, and perform field layout work
Oversee proposal preparation; participate in interviews and public presentations
Model and render Architectural projects, planning, models, and design concepts
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s and/or Professional degree in Landscape Architecture
Licensure as a Professional Landscape Architect, preferred
Candidate must present a strong background in Residential and Single-Family projects
Experience leading teams in master planning, site design, construction documentation and management
Must have a strong portfolio that demonstrates proper leadership on all aspects of design within the landscape architecture space including successful experience navigating and interacting with planning boards and review boards
Proficiency in Architectural design software including AutoCAD, 3D Studio Max, Rhino, Sketch-up, V-Ray and Adobe Suite. Knowledge of GIS is helpful and Revit experience is preferred
Understand project requirements and the development of design concepts
Experience building client relationships, marketing, and business development
Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community while also effectively presenting information to clients, co-workers, and the public
Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility, and an understanding of market forces pertaining to fees, scope, and schedule requirements
Proficient use of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Project
Work well in teams with lead designers and project managers
Experience in Concept Design through Design Development and Construction Documentation
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while possessing professional communication skills
Must be a well-organized individual with strong conceptual, graphic and design aptitude
Demonstrates reliable understanding of the relationship between design and constructability

Salary is commensurate with experience.
