JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

We are seeking an experienced Interior Designer with proved talent for creative thinking and design team leadership. With the direction of our Creative Director, the role will require the ability to lead a project from initial client discovery through final design concept. As member of an all-professional team and design firm offering comprehensive design services for Retail, Supermarket, Hospitality, Specialty Market, and Boutique Hospitality projects—interior and exterior designs, this position will perform the following services:

GENERAL DUTIES: Lead Project Designer for retail and hospitality interiors projects, including architectural interiors and décor/environmental graphic design from conception through final design delivery.

  • Develop creative direction with client and internal team
  • Lead the effort to translate established creative direction into conceptual ideas, actively participate in creative briefings, develop & execute creative concepts
  • Present and advocate for creative design with clients, stakeholders and team
  • Design lead on select projects; lead respective décor design team assigned to project
  • Work collaboratively across departments on all assigned projects

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Visual Research and Development of design and décor projects design direction based on conceptual, aesthetic, demographic, historical, architectural, cultural or other factors to inform the project design and create visual positioning presentations. Leads and collaboratively develops décor Visual Positioning and Décor Concept Designs

Collaborative Design Engagement: Partner with the wider Design team providing insight, knowledge, and design ideas and feedback regarding the design and development of Architectural Interiors and
Décor Design.

Interior Architectural Design and Décor/Environmental Graphics Design work performed with consistent attention to various factors, including but not limited to Client’s brand and values, architectural preferences, structural design principles, materials and finishes, budget parameters, space optimization planning, layout and selection of furnishings, art, equipment, color schemes, décor design, and construction or development schedules. Design scope encompasses all aspects of commercial interior including architectural elements and specialized interior spaces, includes new and remodel projects.

Provide logical and informed design input, including sketches, 3D modeling, rendered vignettes, and 2D and 3D studies. Provides design expertise, detailing and project coordination. Uses combination of 3D modeling software, CAD software, computer graphics, and freehand work to generate various design documents (including initial concept presentations and 3D models for client review).

Budget: Works within the project or task budget. Budgets includes the DLE Design Fee, the Client Fabrication Budget. Periodic checks with production team to means test the design to the budget.

Material & Finish Selection: Create the selection of initial, alternative and final materials and finishes for review and recommendation

Design Development Collaboration: Consults with DD team to describe the concept documents and assist them verbally in the accurate incorporation of the design intent into drawings and other deliverables to client.

Collaboration with Production Services: Upon occasion, may provide detailing and documentation expertise to DLE Production Services as needed based on DLE project scope, workload and resources. Work with the DLE décor fabrication team to ensure décor design intent is carried through from concept to reality.

SPECIFIC TASKS:

  • Project creative lead on select projects as assigned
  • Lead creative line staff on assigned projects
  • Collaborate on creative direction with internal team and client
  • Develop conceptual ideas and creative concepts for Design and Décor projects
  • Concept architectural interiors design within 3d modeling software framework, SketchUp
  • Lead selection of project colorways, materials and finishes, and décor messaging and visual patterns/graphics/typography
  • Present and advocate for creative design with clients, stakeholders and team
  • Be knowledgeable of current and upcoming design trends
  • Work collaboratively across departments on all assigned projects

SYSTEMS & SOFTWARE EXPERTISE:

  • High level expertise in:
  • SketchUp 3D software
  • AutoCAD
  • In Design / Illustrator
  • Adobe Systems
  • Working knowledge of knowledge of REVIT and alternative 3D software programs and beneficial

OTHER DUTIES:

Maintain current knowledge of advancements and innovations in architectural design, interior design, retail design, hospitality design, food retail marketing, ‘green’ building practices, building materials, software, and local and international cultural and consumer trends relevant to work performed by DLE.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise in the software and applications used by DLE. Also, be aware of industry standard software that may or may not be currently utilized by DLE. May be required to learn new or additional software programs or applications (“apps”).

Work incorporates competent knowledge of retail design branding, interior architectural principals and systems, decors, signage & graphics, spatial relationships, physical constraints, interior fixtures and millwork.

As requested, represent Company in meetings or conference calls with clients, developers, vendors, consultants, contractors or others, to present work (or progress of work) for the purposes of advancing projects according to Company’s contracted scope of work.

Manage schedule, budget and work hours to meet deadlines and budgets for specific projects assigned to employee, according to the contracted scope of work. Participate in the development and implementation of DLE scheduling and deliverables standards.

Develop and maintain productive and cooperative interpersonal and working relationships with DLE Clients and internal staff. Foster positive credibility with DLE staff, clients, consultants, vendors, contractors and product representatives. Participate in collaborative team efforts and provide expertise and prior or acquired knowledge of design, materials, vendors and systems that may help enhance each project.
