Are you ready to live and work in a mountain town in the heart of the Adirondacks? Find out why city-dwellers have retreated to this wilderness since before there were highways and breathe deep the therapeutic fresh air every day.

Saranac Lake, NY is a picturesque community nestled among the mountains and lakes, with endless opportunities for outdoor recreation year-round. Only fifteen minutes from the Olympic town of Lake Placid, there’s always something to do whether you’re a thrill seeker, a casual wanderer, or something in between. Proximity to both pristine wilderness and civilization makes Saranac Lake truly a special place to live, with eateries and galleries downtown, and a variety of events in every season. Enjoy small-town life only a couple of hours away from Montreal, Saratoga Springs, and Burlington, or book a weekend flight from the Adirondack Regional Airport directly to Boston or NYC.

Black Mountain Architecture is a sustainable design firm that specializes in green building practices, low-carbon design, and the use of local materials. We balance beauty, function, and responsibility as we design timeless architecture that belongs in the Adirondacks. The bedrock of our firm is our deep understanding of the unique local geography and our experience with modern sustainable building practices, resulting in a high-performance design that is cost-effective and respectful of the surroundings. We take pride in our commitment to our clients, our community, and to this wilderness we call home.

Join our team and use your talents on exciting, challenging, and satisfying projects, such as high-performance homes, complex boathouses, light commercial spaces, and even treehouses. You’ll have the opportunity to take your projects from inception through to completion. While most of our work is within the Adirondack park, we have also been recognized by New York State for leading the design team for the largest market rate net-zero apartment complex in the country.

We value you as a whole person and make sure your employment is a good fit for both parties. We promote a strong work/life balance with a 40-hour work week; we don’t expect you to work extended hours. (Once you’ve worked 40 hours, take off early on a Friday and go hiking or skiing!)

The compensation for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 per year, based on experience. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, including vacation time, personal days, paid holidays, sick days, health insurance, and a retirement plan.
