Architect Level II – AIA description

(6 of more years’ experience) Certification as licensed professional required. Professional degree in Architecture, plus at least six years of related experience. Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client’s needs. Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large complex projects. Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects.




  • Building design, ensuring maintenance and delivery of design and standards from conception to completion.
  • Sharing design knowledge and provision of technical support.
  • Seek, and record evidence of, continuing professional development (CPD) and an annual Personal Development Plan (PDP) in accordance with the requirements of the AIA (or equivalent as applicable e.g. National Administration Board of Architectural Registration [NABAR]).
  • Thorough knowledge of and compliance with KAP Studios procedures and quality standards.
  • Project leadership and client liaison.
  • Manage project team including Architectural Designers.
  • Managing multiple or large scale projects.
  • Liaising with consultants to produce a fully coordinated project.
  • Successfully running and managing jobs to meet clients’ brief, budget, and schedule.

Qualities & Skills

  • Provide guidance and assistance to more junior members of staff.
  • Evidence of good design ability e.g. portfolio of work.
  • Legally able to work in the US and be AIA registered.
  • Ability to understand and formulate design decisions and present for discussion.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of California & Los Angeles Building regulations and Planning Policies.
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks.
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective team.
  • Able to build good working relationships and communicate effectively at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Proficiency to use of CAD Software, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Sketch-Up, and Microsoft Office essential. Develop understanding of BIM/ Revit.
  • Ability to coordinate internal and external information.
  • Ability to coordinate and prepare end of stage reports.
  • Technical detailing.
  • Effectively chair meetings.
  • Ability and understanding of how to use a variety of media in the development and documentation of a design project.
