Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, LLP (AS+GG), an international award-winning firm is looking for a full time Sustainability Architect to join CarbonLab, our sustainability and carbon consulting team. Suitable candidates will likely be recently graduated or experienced architects that want to further a career in sustainable design, however we are open to considering talented innovators with transferable skills from other related walks of life.

AS+GG CarbonLab was established as a studio within the firm in 2021 aiming to push high performance design, industrial and real estate carbon footprint reduction, and innovation across the ESG spectrum to the next level.

As a core member of the team, you will have exciting opportunities to work on architectural and planning projects of various types, sizes, and regions, as well as freedom to conduct independent research and studies that fit within the team’s goals and mission. Roles and responsibilities

  • Support AS+GG design teams throughout the integrative design process -establishing project vision and goals, determining appropriate targets and proposing, evaluating and recommending strategies.
  • Identify, create, refine and implement new and innovative performative design technologies and analytical platforms across the firm, integrating into current workflows. 
  •  Support business development of CarbonLab through developing marketing materials assisting in the preparation of proposals and developing novel consulting work streams.
  • Contribute to the preparation of AS+GG ESG reporting (currently using the UN Global Compact SDG reporting platform).
  • Documentation of Green Building Rating System credits (e.g. LEED, BREEAM, WELL etc.)
  • ArcGIS and PowerBI based carbon reporting – dashboard and storyboard development.
  • Materials research and sustainable specifications documentation.
  • Representing AS+GG and CarbonLab at conferences.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • An appetite to become a leader in sustainability within the built environment.
  • A strong interest in and knowledge of building science and sustainable design and construction.
  • A strong desire to learn and to push the boundaries on sustainability issues, including carbon, energy, water, waste management and materials technology.
  • Ability to provide guidance to the design team on high performance and low carbon design strategies.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects.
  • Proven presentation and communication skills using a variety of tools to convey ideas and strategies to both clients and co-workers verbally, written and graphically.
  • LEED AP and/or WELL AP desirable but not essential.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with Rhino and Grasshopper, Revit, and/or related software.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS, Enscape, PowerBI, Design Builder, Climate Studio, CoveTool, SimScale and LCA software (SimaPro, OneClick LCA, EC3 etc.) is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of construction materials.
  • A self-motivated team player with an optimistic outlook, who is not afraid to ask difficult questions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, or sustainable design required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Alternative qualifications could include GIS, Materials Science, Building Science, AI and Machine Learning.
