JAKLITSCH/GARDNER ARCHITECTS is an award-winning, Black and LGBTQ+ - owned interdisciplinary architecture and design practice based in New York City, with an international reputation for design excellence. Our growing and increasingly diverse portfolio of work includes Public/Institutional, Commercial Lab and Office and high-end Residential projects of varying scales and complexity (4,000 S.F. Interiors to 250,000+ S.F. Ground-up buildings). 

We are currently seeking exceptional candidates for the full-time position of Architect with 5-8 years of continuous, post-graduate experience. This position is a unique opportunity for responsibility, leadership, and growth within a highly collaborative studio that is expanding quickly and entering new markets. There will be opportunities to work on high-profile design projects regionally, nationally, and internationally, many with ambitious sustainability and resiliency goals and public engagement. The right candidate will be working closely with both principals and will gain valuable experience on a wide range of projects. 

Candidates must possess the following prerequisites for this position: 

  • Excellent leadership ability and high-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Design ability that is critically thoughtful, conceptually based and process-oriented.
  • Technical intelligence with regard to building systems
  • Solid construction document experience with an attention to architectural detailing
  • Desire to be involved in all aspects of a projects from concept to implementation
  • Collaborative yet self-directed; highly motivated, proactive, and resourceful
  • Full project experience:
    • Exceptional design skills
    • Agency approvals (NYC Landmarks & Building Codes, SHPO)
    • In-house documentation
    • Drawing coordination with consultant and specification 
    • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Software, Rhino and Enscape
    • Construction Administration 
    • Sustainable and Resilient project design
    • LEED Certified project design
