Lake | Flato is seeking an Urban Design Intern to help with our growing urban design and planning sector helping to design districts, neighborhoods, corridors, and communities all over the country. We appreciate the dose of fresh enthusiasm and skill set that student interns bring to Lake | Flato. These paid positions range from a minimum of six months to a maximum of a year and are open to architecture, urban design, planning, and landscape architecture students and recent school graduates. We are looking for self-starting individuals who share our attitudes about creating compelling work in a collaborative environment. Our work seeks to balance the art and science of architecture and urban design. Applicants should show experience and interest in all aspects of the design process and look forward to being part of an enthusiastic team. The goal of our internship program is to integrate students as much as possible into our urban design and planning practice. Student interns assist project teams and may gain experience with graphic production, presentation prep, digital and physical 3D modeling, etcetera.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently in or recently completed a Master’s degree in Urban Design
  • Currently in or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture
  • Background or experience in planning / urban design /architecture

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability and interest to shift between urban design/planning and architectural scale for design and documentation
  • 2D CAD drafting and 3D modeling experience with SketchUp
  • Rendering techniques
  • Excellent oral, written and graphic communication skills
  • Digital graphic skills, including familiarity with software such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary design team on multiple aspects of urban design and planning
  • Interest in sustainable design at the building, district, 
  • Highly motivated and able to work both self-directed and in interdisciplinary teams in a fast paced and energetic environment
