BMA—an award-winning, sustainable architecture firm based in Saranac Lake, NY—is seeking a Project Architect to join our team. We value collaboration, craft, and the close-knit Adirondack community where we work and live. Our focus is on NetZero, low embodied carbon, residential and light commercial projects.

Architects at BMA lead projects from concept to construction. We collaborate on design, manage production, mentor staff and work one-on-one with clients.

We’re looking for an experienced, self-motivated designer who is not only inspired to work with the natural landscape but also possesses outstanding technical skills and the desire to work closely with everyone on our small team.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) and based in our Saranac Lake office. We offer a flexible schedule (some remote work is possible) and a handsome benefit package.


  • Manage projects from inception to completion with support from BMA’s principal and office manager.

  • Set, track, and manage project budgets, schedules, and design scope with support from BMA’s principal and office manager.

  • Coordinate communication between client, consultants, and supporting staff.

  • Design and oversee project production and design deliverables.

Key Skills:

  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • A collaborative and professional work ethic.

  • Ability to efficiently and creatively provide solutions.

  • BIM modeling experience (Archicad preferred).

  • Experience with project management.


  • Required:

    • 5-10 years minimum of relevant work experience

    • A passion for learning.

    • A strong interest in sustainability, high performance and low-carbon design

    • Interest in residential and light commercial architecture

  • Preferred:

    • Professional degree in architecture and architecture license

    • Passive House certification (CPHC or CPHD&C)

    • Knowledge of high performance light wood construction.


The compensation for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year, based on experience. BMA offers a competitive benefits package including two weeks (10 days) paid vacation, 5 sick days, 8 paid holidays, health insurance, and retirement plan.
