A Senior Architect works closely with the PM to execute project plans, provide oversight of the teams’ design and technical delivery, mentors less experienced design staff and can be relied upon to present directly to the client on technical and design solutions. Senior Architects may also have special expertise, roles, and/or titles such as QA/QC, accessibility specialist, etc. A Senior Architect may serve as Project Architect on the most complex projects of the largest magnitude.

Effectively lead project team, ensuring collaboration between internal disciplines (PM, Interiors, Art), consultants, and contractors
Be comfortable communicating design solutions for both internal design review meetings and external client presentations
Self-evaluate one’s skills, efficiency and where improvement is needed
Model positive leadership, communication, and organizational skills; mentor and facilitate growth of less experienced colleagues
Core Responsibilities
Project Design and Planning
Understand the MA Project Road Map, project Deliverables by Phase, and Responsibility Matrix (when applicable) as well as project contract, scope, and budget
Acknowledge, understand, and follow the project plan and schedule (including phase deadlines, filing milestones, meeting deliverables, and staff roles and responsibilities)
Collaborate on overall design concepts and carry forward the established design direction
Prepare detailed mock-up (or cartoon) set and assign staff accordingly
Project Administration
Team Meetings
Establish recurring staff, client, and consultant meetings
Assist with distributing agendas, meeting minutes, and tracking action items
Internal Management
Mentor, motivate and provide guidance to less experienced colleagues
Provide regular project updates to Directors
Consultant Management
Lead consultant coordination amongst all disciplines
Foster cross discipline communication
Client Management
Be a secondary point of contact, manage expectations and ensure satisfaction
Contractor Management
Be the primary point of contact for RFIs, submittals, and correspondence
Notify Project Manager about all signed/seal documents before distribution
Know the contractor’s contract responsibilities
Project Documentation
Manage the project documentation for all phases including models and renderings
Monitor the documentation for compliance with building code and accessibility requirements
Research and select appropriate materials and products
Develop project specific construction details
Communicate with the MA project team and consultants to ensure technically accurate and well‑coordinated documents consistent with the design intent
Work with specifications writer to prepare comprehensive specifications
Create and maintain Drawing List
Create Cartoon Set
Review consultant sets and coordinate prior to the release of drawings for each phase
Supervise team members
Quality Control
Comply with MA Presentation Standards and MA Checklists
Schedule QA/QC reviews as per the MA Project Road Map
Archive project emails and maintain standard server file organization
Ensure consultant sets are reviewed and coordinated prior to the release of drawings for each phase
Ensure archiving and BIM audits occur at regular intervals
Have a strong understanding of local building codes and accessibility requirements
Notify Project Manager about all signed/seal documents before distribution
Construction Administration
Participate in onsite OAC meetings
Review submittals for compliance with design intent and maintain log
Assist with RFI's and maintain log
Conduct site observations and prepare field reports
