Assistant Development Manager

The Assistant Development Manager is responsible for aiding in the management of all development-related projects at East Brown Cow, also referred to as "EBC", from project conceptualization and planning through design, permitting, construction, and branding, leasing, marketing (where applicable). This position reports to the Director of Development and is required to work closely with all EBC staff as well as tenants, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, lawyers, project managers, and local/city, state, and federal governments. This is a full-time salaried/exempt position.

Selection of current significant projects

  • The naming, identity, and launch of a new aparthotel style in-house hospitality brand.
  • Design and planning for a ground-up 300FT tall ‘tower’ with a world-renowned architecture office.
  • Design through construction of a significant historic tax credit rehabilitation and conversion of a circa 1867 structure located in the downtown Old Port neighborhood of Portland.


  • Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Degree in Architecture, Urban, City, or Regional Planning, or related fields such as Urban Design or Real Estate.
  • Professional and/or internship experience at a commercial real estate or design firm.
  • Strong conceptual, graphic, and design skills demonstrated in a sample of work.
  • Strong AutoCAD and Adobe Suite skills. Ability to exercise a sufficient level of discretion and independent judgment, work collaboratively, be a proactive self-starter and technical problem solver, and have an exceptional attention to detail.


  • Experience working with project management tools such as BIM360 and/or Procore.
  • Strong skills in Revit, Rhino, and rendering software such as V-Ray or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with green building standards such as LEED, Energy Star, and WELL.
  • Pursuing Associate AIA, AIA, or AICP certification/licensure.
  • Knowledge of BOMA measurement standards.

Key Responsibilities


  • Offer design advisory services on a project-by-project basis.
  • Source, select, and compile project-related specifications such as architectural or interior finishes.
  • Act as an in-house architectural and/or interior designer for smaller renovation or improvement projects.


  • Participate in master planning for applicable larger development projects.
  • Assist in the process of long-term development planning for existing assets.
  • Coordinate research and documentation of historic preservation and rehabilitation planning of locally and nationally listed historic properties.

Project Management

  • Administratively assist in the management of all development projects from conceptualization through completion with particular focus during the design process.
  • Oversee EBC’s use of the Autodesk BIM 360 project management platform by:
    • Performing project-based assistance and giving technical support to both staff members and external vendors while maintaining a support relationship with Autodesk.
    • Specifying and organizing all development processes, including locating all mid to large scale construction and development projects on the platform.
    • Coordinating access, viewership, and download permissions for all modules on the platform for relevant users.


  • Act as in-house coordinator, responsible for architecturally related leasing items such as:
    • Providing ‘definition of premises’ lease exhibits for new leases.
    • Performing BOMA area measurement calculations on properties throughout EBC’s portfolio.
    • Supplying leasing brokers with necessary architectural and design related information such as up-to-date floorplans for marketing purposes or space-specific packages of materials for qualified potential tenants such as tenant signage guidelines, raw design files, or spatial fit-up options.


  • Act as either project member or designer, depending on the project, for all corporate, hospitality, and architecturally related branding projects.

Working Conditions

  • Designated office and working hours are 8:30AM to 5:00PM Monday to Friday.
  • The Assistant Development Manager needs to be available to either respond to or assist/triage a development-related emergency outside of traditional business hours. This may result in more than 40 hours of work occurring during some weeks.
  • The Assistant Development Manager may be required to perform physical tasks either in the company office or on-site at a property or jobsite. These tasks could include lifting, carrying objects, bending down, reaching up, or climbing ladders.
