Marx|Okubo Associates is looking for a qualified Building Envelope Specialist who will be responsible for work in all aspects of our building envelope service offerings. This includes a full range of envelope consulting services, from investigations and pre-design feasibility, to technical design consulting, all the way through construction and post-occupancy. 

We are looking to boost our existing New York team with a self-motivated professional, possessing both technical and leadership skills, who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment. Our ideal candidate is one who is passionate about the work they do, and is also continually finding ways to develop their knowledge, skills, and expertise.

This position will be based in our New York/White Plains office and reports to the Vice President- Envelope. Salary shall be commensurate with experience, and a full range of benefit options is offered.

Essential Functions

  • Perform work on all project and service types: investigations, pre-design, existing repair and/or restoration, technical consulting and advising, feasibility consulting, construction administration, envelope performance analysis, technical inspections, post-occupancy analysis, and more.
  • Property visits and construction site visits
  • Review of design and construction documents (ie. Drawings, specifications, contracts, submittals, etc.), both as part of design consulting as well as third-party review.
  • Preparation of reports of varying types (site observation, test witnessing, property assessment, etc.)
  • Witnessing and/or performing of probes or testing of building envelope assemblies.
  • Research of new products and systems as needed for support of consulting services and development of internal resource library.
  • Analysis of building envelope assemblies and their performance (structural, thermal, energy, etc.)
  • Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, presentations, and other deliverables as necessary for consulting services. Extent and scope of these deliverables will vary with every project.
  • Adherence to Marx|Okubo quality assurance and administrative protocols to ensure that all services meet or exceed company standards and our client's expectations.
  • Participation in internal research projects and dissemination efforts relative to building envelope.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 7+ years' professional experience, with at least 3 years specifically in building envelope consulting (either in forensics, design, restoration, construction, or ideally, multiple areas)
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction, or building science; or qualified equivalent on-job training. 
  • Professional licensure, or timely plan to achieve licensure.
  • Proficiency in following applications at minimum: MS Office, Bluebeam, Autocad and/or Revit.
  • Experience in the following programs preferred: Rhino, Therm, WUFI, Mepla, RFEM, STRAND, TEKLA and any of the various modeling and analysis applications.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and ability to manage multiple parties' interests on projects.
  • Ability to work both independently, as well as with a highly collaborative team.
  • Willingness to work from scaffolding, swing stage, and/or rooftops when necessary; certifications (ie. OSHA) in this area are preferred but not required for consideration.
  • Valid driver's license, and passport, and willingness to travel for work as necessary.
