Duties and Responsibilities
Understand project schedule and deliverables to ensure scope of work is completed in a timely manner
Coordinate with project manager to define team member roles and responsibilities
Collaborate with studio team members in an open and respectful manner to advance building design and documentation
Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts
Develop space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program
Assist in conceptualizing a building design functionally and aesthetically in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, and program
Assist in design development through sketches, physical models, digital models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups
Assist in preparation of design presentations for stakeholders (client groups and project teams)
Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components
Interpret and apply building codes and requirements of regulatory agencies in development of the building design
Evaluate and select building systems and materials
Coordinate building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure compatibility with design intent
Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment
Understand geotechnical, hydrological, environmental, social, and economic conditions and their effects on building design
Create concise construction documents including set organization, drawing development, and quality control
Assist with development, review, and reconciliation of cost estimates
Ensure that design intent id maintained through documentation and construction
Provide informal mentorship to junior staff
Skills and Qualifications
6+ years of experience in the A/E/C industry
Professionally accredited degree in Architecture or equivalent in support of architectural license is required
LEED AP Accreditation preferred
Architectural experience in educational facilities is strongly preferred
Ability to hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas affectively
Ability to apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to the design of a wide variety of project scopes and complexity
General knowledge of building construction systems, constructability, materials, and industry associated standards
Experience with modeling/drafting software (Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD)
Demonstrated expertise in 3-D rendering capabilities
Strong experience with design software (Sketch-Up, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) required
Experience with parametric modeling software a plus (Grasshopper, Dynamo, etc.)
Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness
Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material
Ability to engage in creative and critical thought
Strong verbal and graphic communication skills (presentations, meetings, etc.)
