The School of Architecture and Design at the New York Institute of Technology invites outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Architecture with expertise in building technologies, integrated with architectural design.

 This position will be based in our NYC and/or Long Island campuses and requires teaching, coordination, and curriculum development at the graduate and undergraduate levels in courses, seminars, and electives in this specialization as well as integrative architectural design studios. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a track record of scholarly achievements, creative activities, and professional practice with an agenda to advance design approaches engaging with critical environmental, social and entrepreneurial perspectives crucial to the advancement of architectural and design practice for purpose.


Candidate responsibilities for a successful academic path will include teaching, research, and service. Essential will be the contribution to the School’s curricular development, studio and technology course sequences coordination, participation in program accreditation, student mentoring and advising, retention and recruitment initiatives, and service activities to the community, the SoAD, and the Institution.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a track record of architectural design combined with technical expertise in building construction, structures, and materials. Important will be an evolving design research agenda supported by a professional practice to advance building and environmental technologies. Areas of emphasis include the integration of building envelopes, materials, systems, and performance modeling within courses and design studios and the development of innovative pedagogies facilitating the pursuit of new knowledge at the NYIT School of Architecture and Design. Applicants should have proficiency in the latest digital tools and methods used to evaluate building performance and systems. Certifications pertaining to sustainability and green building technologies are preferred.  In addition, it will be desirable to have experience and interest in fabrication and emerging technologies.

The candidate will be expected to have an active role in the development of cross-disciplinary research projects leading to the expansion of ongoing collaborations and partnerships within the institution, other universities, with the profession and the industry, nationally and internationally, contributing to NYIT’s excellence and the enhancement of NYIT’s reputation.

●      First professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch or international equivalent) plus professional license (license in progress will be accepted), or Ph.D.

●      Ability to teach topical courses/seminars/electives in the area of the position description; ability to teach architectural design studios.

●      Evidence of specialized research, academic, professional/creative activities, and achievements with strong and innovative design sensitivity.

 Preferred Qualifications

●      Record of interdisciplinary collaborations.

●      Contributions to externally funded research. 

●      Record of publications related to practice-based research and/or teaching.
