Managing Principal (MP) is responsible for cultivating and maintaining an office environment that is professionally fulfilling and is aligned with the firm’s overall culture and values. The MP is a strong leader with excellent business sense with the ability to generate business from proven client relationships. The MP is the leader of the local shareholders and works to bring consensus on decisions and leads in implementing those decisions. The MP is part of the NAC senior management team, responsible for the perpetual improvement of the firm to enable the achievement of the firms’ goals and objectives. The MP monitors and manages the operations of the local office to ensure the profitability of the office and its contributions to the success of NAC. The tasks described in managing the functions of the office are estimated to be 30-40% of the MP’s time, while the remaining time is allocated to growing and maintaining client relationships and project leadership.  

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the overall business management of the office
  • Responsible for contributing, developing, and promoting NAC’s vision, mission, core values, long range goals and objectives and coordinating implementation plans
  • Leads multiple projects efficiently and effectively
  • Participates in creating and positioning the firm to take advantage of opportunities for growth and marketplace expansion
  • Facilitates consistent and frequent communication to office staff about new projects, accomplishments, and other firm news
  • In conjunction with other senior leaders, is responsible for realization of profits compatible with interests of clients and the firm
  • Works with other firm leaders to refine and establish new policies to ensure successful operations
  • Implements agreed to policies developed by firm leadership.
  • Oversees and directs office operations and activities to promote achievement of the firm’s objectives
  • Ensures profitability, quality documents following firm standards
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly and quarterly financial reports to ensure profitability, efficiency, and project health
  • Responsible for facilitating staff professional development process in office to foster mentorship and the transfer of knowledge to staff
  • Ability to successfully resolve conflicts and challenges related to projects, client, and staff
  • Monitors the staffing levels and provides oversight to the recruiting and hiring needs of the office in coordination with the overall firm staffing strategy
  • Allocate and manage staff time and resources to complete the highest possible quality work within constraints of fees and budgets
  • Coordinate allocation of staff resources with other offices to facilitate cross-office production teams

Certification Requirements

  • Architectural License preferred but not required
  • LEED Accreditation preferred

Supervisory Requirements

  • Responsible to provide oversight for senior leadership

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office provides collaborative work areas and shared resources such as video conferencing, printing/scanning, and a café for dining. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures, wind, dust, and noise levels and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.
  • Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
  • Ability to lift a set of construction documents
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time

Physical Demands

Position Type/Hours expected to work

  • This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week

Travel

  • Occasional travel

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture required (accredited university preferred)
  • Master of Architecture or Business Administration preferred
  • A minimum of ten years professional architectural experience or equivalent
  • Current client contacts in one of NAC’s primary markets (Healthcare, PK-12, Higher Education) with the capability of expanding client relationships beyond existing clients.
