Location:                           San Francisco, CA (Remote Possible)


Halyard, Inc seeks Senior Architecture Manager to assist VP of Construction in supervising San Francisco apartment building renovation and new apartment (ADU) projects. Oversee a team of architectural job captains and engineers with a focus on design development and permit approvals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the project life-cycle from pre-design through post-occupancy.  Ensure all projects proceed as planned through each stage of design and construction.
  • Design Development: Supervise the coordination of in-house architectural and engineering plan sets.  Review approved schematic design package and direct the team in preparing permit drawings and bid sets.
  • Permit Approvals: Supervise team in preparation of building department submittal package.  Enforce quality control standards to ensure a smooth permit approval process.  Manage the approval process including planning, building, structural, mechanical, DPW, PUC, SFFD and any other required agencies.  Meet with AJHs as required and direct in-house staff in obtaining routine agency approvals.
  • Bidding: Manage the creation of a clear, complete, concise and coordinated bid document package.  Assist the construction management group to secure bids from in-house or 3rd party general contractors.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • bachelor’s or masters degree in Architecture or related field.
  • Minimum 10 Years’ experience working on multi-family projects
  • Licensed to practice architecture in California is preferred.
  • Strong experience with San Francisco’s permit approvals process is required.

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Must be a good communicator (written and oral) and must be able to maintain effective documentation
  • Capability to think critically, solve problems logically and make well-reasoned business decisions
  • Knowledge of the codes, laws and standards that apply to architecture such as local and state building codes.  Thorough understanding of code interpretations as they relate to existing non-conforming structures is required.
  • Experience with projects in rent-controlled buildings are a plus.
  • Excellent personal leadership skills and proven ability to build, develop and motivate teams.
  • Proactive, well-organized and results-oriented with the ability to lead and participate in multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to details and multitasking capability
  • Exercise significant independent judgement, initiative, responsibility, and accountability
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel
