Overview

SE Group is seeking an Associate-level Mountain Planner to join our Salt Lake City office.  This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team of industry leaders that sets the standard for the design and planning of ski areas and mountain resorts around the world. One week you may be drafting chair lift designs for a resort in Alaska, the next the trail layout for an expansion in Utah, and another the specs for a base area in Vermont. Our job sites are the places most people save for vacation!

If you are committed to design excellence and do your best work in fun, fast-moving environments – and you relish the winter months – we want to hear from you!

About SE Group

At SE Group, our work is grounded in the belief that outdoor recreational experiences are a powerful foundation for thriving communities. This belief is the driving force behind our passion for uncovering the unique potential of every place and space we serve.

SE Group has been the industry leader in the planning and design of mountain resorts since 1958. Over the years, our team has grown to include landscape architects, engineers, community planners, environmental experts, and economic advisors that are pioneering how communities across the country think about recreation, tourism, and outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a multi-season mountain resort or a schoolyard playground, our clients trust us to lead them from the first spark of inspiration to the final phase of implementation.

With hubs in Utah, Colorado, and Vermont, we are lucky to live in the heart of some of the amazing recreational communities we serve.  We all share a passion for getting outside (in its many diverse forms) and SE Group is committed to offering an exceptional employee experience that honors this, as well as one that promotes collaboration, mentorship, growth – and laughter!

Position Priorities

This position will focus on assisting our project managers and team members with the analysis, planning, and design of ski area related development projects, and in the preparation of mountain resort master plans.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing grading plans, site plans, and construction documents
  • Analysis of physical attributes and capacities of mountain resorts
  • Participating in field reconnaissance trips in support of analysis and design
  • Preparation of graphic deliverables that communicate our work

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years-experience working in a related professional field such as engineering, landscape architecture, or surveying.

Other desired skills and experience include:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Experience interfacing directly with clients: communicating desired outcomes, advocating for their needs, and managing expectations
  • Experience contributing to business development tasks (preparing SOWs, budgets, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (preferably Civil3D)
  • Experience using 3D modeling platforms, Global Mapper, Infraworks, and GPS software
  • Ability to effectively communicate plans through Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Experience contributing to planning documents such as master development plans, feasibility studies, strategic business plans, and environmental assessments
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision

We are currently operating in a combined remote and in-office work environment, and being able to meet and socialize in the same space is important to our team dynamic. Candidates that live (or can relocate) within reasonable driving distance of our Salt Lake City, UT office will be preferred. Being a passionate skier or snowboarder isn’t required, but certainly helps in understanding the complexities of designing mountain resorts.
