JAM is seeking an in-office Senior Interior Designer with a minimum of 5 years of post-graduate work experience in high-end residential interior design.

We are a multidisciplinary firm based in DUMBO, Brooklyn with current work throughout New York City, the Hamptons and the Hudson Valley. Our focus is on residential renovations and restorations where we strive to keep the best of what’s old and thoughtfully introduce the new. We are looking for a Senior Interior Designer who shares our passion for high end, custom residential work and is looking for long-term career growth.

We have several new projects that need a motivated and self-starting interior designer to work directly with the firm Principals on all phases of design and construction.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Manage 4 to 5 residential interior projects in various project phases from schematic design through installation
  • Attend client meetings and site visits and record meeting minutes
  • Oversee and delegate tasks to junior interiors staff
  • Prepare and collaborate on client presentations based on verbal and written directives/sketches from principals
  • Source and present finishes, textiles, fixtures, furniture, hardware, lighting, rugs to principals for inclusion in client presentations
  • Design custom furniture, millwork, flooring patterns, lighting based on directives and collaboration with principals
  • Oversee and/or generate furniture plans, finish plans, decorative lighting plans, custom furniture drawings and specification details
  • Oversee junior staff’s communication with vendors for quotes, samples and product specifications
  • Oversee junior staff on product ordering and delivery tracking through installation
  • Oversee the preparation of design presentations using Photoshop and InDesign
  • Coordinate with vendors, various tradesman, workrooms and receiving warehouses throughout project to ensure timely and smooth installation
  • Coordinate with contractors during construction
  • Manage FF&E budgets
  • Create and manage project schedules and internal deadlines
  • Oversee and organize project installations with warehouse and logistics partners
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with clients

Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in interior design or architecture from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of post-graduate work experience in high-end residential interior design in New York City
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and SketchUp
  • Hand sketching skills
  • Experience working with an interior design specification management software
  • Knowledge of high-end showrooms, vendors and resources that align with firm’s aesthetic
  • Knowledge of working with or restoring vintage furniture, specifically mid-century and Art Deco
  • Familiar with industry standards and knows how to specify:
    • High-end fabrics and stain treatments
    • Wallpapers and decorative paint/plaster finishes
    • Area rugs, custom rugs & wall-to-wall carpet
    • Window treatments & hardware
    • Decorative hardware
    • Decorative plumbing fixtures
    • Tile & stone
    • Flooring finishes & patterns
    • Decorative lighting
    • Custom furniture
  • Strong communication and client service skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the US and fluent in English (written and spoken)
