JAM is seeking a Project Architect with at least 5 years of post-graduate work experience in high-end residential architecture in New York City.

We are a multidisciplinary firm based in DUMBO, Brooklyn with current work throughout New York City, the Hamptons and the Hudson Valley. Our focus is on residential renovations and restorations where we strive to keep the best of what’s old and thoughtfully introduce the new. We are looking for a Project Architect who shares our passion for residential work and is looking for long-term career growth.

We have several new projects that need a motivated and self-starting architect to work directly with the firm Principals on all phases of design and construction.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Manage 4 to 5 residential projects in various project phases from schematic design through construction close out
  • Attend client meetings and site visits and record meeting minutes
  • Oversee and delegate tasks to junior architectural staff
  • Create and manage project schedules and internal deadlines
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with project team
  • Prepare and collaborate on client presentations based on verbal and written directives/sketches from principals
  • Source and present architectural finishes, appliances, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and architectural lighting to principals for inclusion in client presentations
  • Design custom millwork based on directives and collaboration with principals
  • Oversee and/or generate architectural plans and construction documents, details and specifications for a variety of residential construction types 
  • Oversee and participate in field measuring and documentation of existing conditions including precise measurements of existing moldings and profiles when necessary
  • Coordinate with expeditor/code consultant regarding permit drawings and paperwork from initial submission through project close out
  • Request proposals and oversee coordination of all consultant drawings and specifications (Engineers, Consultants, Vendors)
  • Oversee and facilitate the bidding process, initial walk-throughs with GC’s, RFI’s, bid leveling and contract negotiation
  • Lead construction administration, coordinate with contractors and tradesman, attend weekly site visits, record meeting minutes and maintain client communication through move-in and completion of punch list
  • Manage construction budget, review change orders and payment requisitions for accuracy

  • Knows their way around Spotify & Pandora – the office music is always on!


  • Professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution
  • Architectural License or working towards licensure considered a plus
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-graduate work experience in high-end residential architecture in New York City
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and SketchUp
  • Hand sketching skills
  • Experience creating and assembling comprehensive drawing sets for NYC DOB and LPC approvals, pricing and construction
  • Knowledge of pre-war and post-war construction
  • Knowledge of wood frame construction
  • Knowledge of brick/limestone/brownstone townhouses
  • Legally authorized to work in the US and fluent in English (written and spoken)
