Gunkel Architecture is seeking an experienced Senior Project Architect to join our 12-person firm in Emeryville. As a key leadership position within the firm, the Senior Project Architect must be committed to building on the firm’s overall vision, values, and goals. This position requires technical expertise, a passion for mentoring staff, strong leadership skills. The principals and office will depend on the technical knowledge this person shares and on the ability to establish appropriate and implementable quality control and office standards. Because Gunkel Architecture is a relatively small and young office, the work will require collaboration, a desire for problem solving, and an enthusiasm for building office-wide standards that may not yet exist.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited university;
  • License in Architecture in the State of California;
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of working experience in the profession;
  • Strong technical skills in wood-frame multifamily residential projects, from code compliance and permit sets to construction details and construction administration;
  • Strong organizational skills that complement the principals and project managers’ financial, schedule, design and technical goals for different projects;
  • Proven leadership, mentorship, and communication skills, with a particular understanding of how to successfully develop and roll out standards with a diverse group of staff and project needs;
  • Software proficiency in AutoCAD, and strong preference for experience in Revit; and
  • Experience with affordable housing or a commitment to socially- and environmentally- focused work is a plus.
