The Facilities Planning Department at The Aerospace Corporation oversees the Design & Construction project planning and budgeting for a 2 million square foot portfolio of owned and leased buildings across the United States.

We have an excellent opportunity for an entry-level Facilities Architectural Project Planner that will be responsible for programming and conceptual planning through design development of facilities projects ranging in value from thousands to multi-millions.  Projects include the renovation of offices, laboratories, auditoriums, conference rooms and the development of interior finishes.  The Project Planner will be capable of developing on-the-spot sketches of verbal concepts into understandable and executable options, creating a written program of requirements, establishing preliminary cost estimates and prioritizing projects for budgeting purposes.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Interviewing customers across all Corporate organizations to understand their needs
  • Developing written programs of requirements and preliminary design concepts
  • Researching existing building infrastructure and code requirements
  • Developing executable options to meet customer requirements
  • Establishing preliminary cost estimates for proposed options
  • Learning business operations by establishing budgets and prioritizing projects for execution
  • Collaborating with Facilities Master Planner to establish long-term project priorities and space plans across the Corporate portfolio
  • Providing leadership for change management with our customers

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited program in Architecture, Engineering or related field (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • 0-1 years of industry work experience
  • Experience translating customer requirements into written programs, floorplans and design concepts
  • Experience using AutoCAD or other Computer-Aided Design software
  • Exposure to Facility Space Planning
  • Familiarity with building infrastructure systems
  • Experience creating and giving presentations 
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Experience in programming requirements and designing, including A/V systems, conference rooms, laboratories and classified space
  • Experience in cost estimating Design & Construction projects
  • Experience with Building, Fire, Electrical & Mechanical codes
  • Experience managing Facilities utilizing CAFM software
  • Experience in establishing Corporate Budgets (Overhead & Capital)
