Our thoughtful team of collaborators is seeking an Interior Architect or Interior Designer to join our Residential Studio.

We are a down-to-earth team of architects, craftsmen, and construction professionals who share a vision of exceptional design and are dedicated to creating timeless buildings. Our designs feature a focus on landscape, intentional materials and a simplicity of expression. As a company, we strive to be one of the top employers in Maine and pride ourselves on offering a positive, healthy, and creative work environment. We are offering a generous benefits package, including up to 6 weeks of paid vacation (right off the bat!) plus paid holidays as well as retirement and health/dental/vision benefits.

The Interiors Architect will be expected to:

  • Develop a series of architectural interiors on each project that are building and site-specific with the goal of achieving a holistically designed building on the inside and out.
  • Be involved in all phases of design from conceptual work all the way through construction administration - working and contributing to the design team through the lens of interiors.
  • Participate in pre-design and building planning as necessary to understand and fulfill the client’s vision.
  • Together with the shell team, work philosophically and pragmatically toward a vision of how the project’s interior architecture relates to its surrounding landscape, proposed architecture, client needs, sustainable strategies, and a firm-wide goal of delivering forward-thinking design.
  • Keep up to date with project developments by regularly interfacing with Project Managers and Designers.
  • Take a lead role in the selection of interior materials, furnishings, and lighting. The Interior Architect should feel comfortable championing design decisions that benefit the interior architecture of the project.
  • Produce working drawings and renderings illustrating project interiors.
  • Collaborate closely with the Millwork team to bring the highest quality custom interiors to life and make sure the flow of information between the Studio and Millshop is consistent and accurate.
  • Liaison with external contractors including mechanical and structural consultants on matters of interior architecture.
  • Present and respond to clients about interior design topics.
  • Work collaboratively with other Architectural Designers and Project Managers in our studio
  • Support systems and organizational structures for storage of sample materials

An ideal candidate:

  • Has a rigorous and developed approach to design
  • Demonstrates a high-level ability to think spatially
  • Evokes a design pragmatism and understanding of our ethos

  • Architectural/Interior Design degree from an accredited program
  • 2 to 10 years of professional work experience in a design practice
  • Interior Design/Architecture license strongly preferred OR a viable path to licensure required.
  • Experience using ArchiCAD preferred
  • Residential interiors experience preferred - this is not a decorator position - we are looking for someone with a serious understanding and passion for architecture
  • An interest in our design approach and using top quality materials
