In a Nutshell

The Design Standards Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring MN Custom Homes product design prototype standards are developed, documented, and maintained for use by our internal architecture department.

Key functions

  • Models and reinforces actions and behaviors consistent with the Company's values, mission, and culture
  • Collects, archives, and catalogs past MN Custom Homes project design documents
  • Works with the Product Development team to create and model core product prototypes for use in rapid creation of permit document sets
  • Works with the Production Architecture team to create and maintain design standards interface and use procedures
  • Works with the Construction Department to ensure coordination between product prototype models and standard procurement and construction specifications
  • Works with staff and consultant BIM Managers to integrate prototype models with overall BIM production workflows and standards
  • Participates in quality assurance reviews to ensure brand standards conformance
  • Maintains and updates standard design prototype models to maintain code compliance and brand currency
  • Serves as main point of contact for document archives, prototype creation and modification requests
  • Proactively partners with and builds strong relationships with team members and key stakeholders across the organization at all levels
  • Stays informed and up to date on current code compliance requirements for all jurisdictions where MN Custom Homes is actively pursuing new projects
  • Identifies opportunities and drives continuous improvement related to Architecture 
  • Partners cross functionally on projects and initiatives as needed or required
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related design discipline or equivalent
  • 4+ years’ experience in a BIM manager or equivalent role
  • Previous experience developing, implementing, and managing a design standards program preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in building design and documentation preferred
  • Experience with lean design in construction or manufacturing processes is favorably considered
  • Strong familiarity with wood-frame single-family construction
  • Ability to exercise and prioritize creative design judgment in a systematic production workflow
  • Close familiarity with and ability to read technical architectural, engineering, and construction drawings and documents
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to effectively multitask and juggle simultaneous demands while remaining flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with little direction or oversight
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
