Jessica Schuster Design is seeking a talented Senior Architectural Designer with a background in Hospitality to join our growing team. The position will require designing and overseeing the schematic design, development and project management of our hospitality projects. The designer/architect will be expected to provide a visual representation of the concept and communicate the Principal Designer's objectives orally and visually. The designer will be responsible for producing drawings, and coordinating with the design team to take SD’s to CD’s and be expected to manage all project-related tasks, client meetings and contractor coordination working directly with the Principal Designer and Project Design Director, collaborating with fellow studio members, clients, consultants, and artisans. You will work from our offices in New York City but may be asked to travel for occasional site visits. The chosen candidate will be self-motivated, passionate, a great communicator and have a desire to grow with the company as a key member of our team.

DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the development and realization of project from start to finish, inclusive of Concept, Design Development, Construction Documentation & Administration 

  • Act as liaison between Principal, Design Director and design team during design process

  • Work with Design Director to review scope, schedule, budget, staffing needs, and project milestones

  • Lead team in conceiving of project concept and design to meet client program, JSID standards, local code, and project budget constraints

  • Coordinate and participate in the preparation of all contract documents including:

    • Design presentations

    • Mood boards

    • 3D Models & views

    • Rendered plans, elevations, and views

    • Specifications and drawings

    • Full set of construction drawings

    • Finish, hardware, & plumbing selection and specifications

    • FFE selection

    • Custom furniture design and documentation

    • Finish boards and/or boxes

    • FFE binders

  • Prepare project cost and fee analysis and review project billing

  • Ensure on-time delivery of all contract documents

  • Supervise, develop and mentor Designers

  • Review in collaboration with the Design Director all documents to ensure they meet design intent, client’s needs and visions, and JSID standards

  • Represent and manage design coordination between clients and consultants

  • Attend site visits and client presentations and coordination meetings

  • Present design presentations to clients and consultants

  • Lead team in performing field visits/measurements and construction administration services including site visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing control samples and shop drawings, coordinating with consultants, manufacturers, and contractors, and completing punch list

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/QUALITIES:

  • Minimum of 8 yrs experience in hospitality design or proven skill level

  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospitality design standards and an understanding of hospitality operations

  • Architecture or Interior Design degree, accredited 4yr+ program

  • Proven organizational abilities and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects across various phases

  • Strong experience in management and coordination of construction drawing sets with strong knowledge of construction detailing, materials, methods, and codes

  • Strong experience in management and coordination of ff&e specification deliverables/implementation and available vendor/fabricators

  • Strong experience in the management and implementation of a design concept in a team environment through completion that is on schedule and meets budget and design intent.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketchup, Rhino, V-Ray, Adobe Creative Suite, and related software used to create design and contract documents within the Designer’s discipline.

  • Is collaborative, self-motivated, positive, and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Provides inspiration and motivation for hospitality design studio

  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be comfortable in interfacing with clients, consultants, vendors and internal staff

  • Knowledge of commercial building standards, fire safety codes, ADA codes, and applicable codes for textiles, furnishings, and finishes

Job Type: Full-time, NYC-based in office

Pay: $85,00.00 - $140,000.00 per year
