SILLMAN is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Design Lead/Jr. PM for our Architectural Practice.

This position is Full Time, and the successful candidate should have experience in similar positions in an Architectural Firm.

Candidates should have Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills; Fluent English is essential.

SILLMAN is an award-winning architectural design firm. Founded in 1976, SILLMAN offers Planning, Architecture, Interior Design and Sustainable Design Services to diverse clients. SILLMAN is a medium sized firm (35 people) that is growing. We have a great group of designers who work well together and are committed to creating innovative quality architecture that is efficient, sustainable and reflects the values of the community and our clients.

We are centrally located in Mission Valley, however we are currently working remotely.


Unlicensed architect who exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and use of standard techniques, solves problems when encountered, and receives guidance on complex projects.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:    Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture

Experience:  Minimum of 5 Years of experience in architecture                     

Job Specific Qualifications

  1. Competent in all conventional aspects of architecture
  2. Performs work requiring independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  3. Independently solves problems encountered
  4. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex issues and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
  5. Organized
  6. Ability to delegate assignments to support staff and always be respectful
  7. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the appropriate use of building systems, materials, and technologies. Show initiative in the research of alternative systems and materials.
  8. Understand requirements/deliverables of all phases
  9. Understand the process of coordination with government agencies, and the plan check approval process.
  10. Professional attitude and appearance
  11. Have working knowledge and follows SWA procedures, standards, and protocols
  12. Demonstrate proficiency in some applications and multimedia software (Lumion, Excel, Word, InDesign, Microsoft Project, Photoshop)
  13. Annual 5 hours of ADA Continuing Education
  14. Working knowledge of applicable building code and applications
  15. Willingness and hunger for expansion of knowledge (LEED/Sustainable Certification, etc.)
  16. Works well with others
  17. Ability to manage small projects

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of large, complex projects.
  2. Reviews and approves conceptual designs.
  3. Establish productive working relationships, and deal effectively and cooperatively with team members, consultants, and government agencies
  4. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  5. Coordinate projects with team members and consultants for conflicts and discrepancies
  6. Write meeting minutes and professional correspondence
  7. Assist in the preparation of work plans and schedules
  8. Participate in the development of working drawings, and help fulfill requirements deliverables of SD, DD and CD phases
  9. Coordinate drawings with consultant drawings and specifications
  10. Apply building code concepts of accessibility, occupant loads, exit widths, fire rated walls and doors, ramps, stairs and handrails
  11. Assist in review of submittals, shop drawings, respond to RFI’s, and preparation of instruction bulletins for changes
  12. Provide Mentorship/Meet regularly with Mentor
  13. May manage small projects

Software Experience

Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, InDesign, Projects, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
