Gannett Fleming is looking for a Senior Project Manager/Senior Architect with transit/transportation experience to join our New York, New York office with 15 years of progressive experience with the energy and motivation to play a significant role in a growing an architectural practice. There a significant opportunity in the Rail and Transit sector on the design of stations, maintenance facilities and other rail yard buildings/structures.

The successful candidate will responsible for handling the most complex projects of the largest magnitude, preparing strategic plans for project success and delivers them on schedule, within budget, and with maximum client satisfaction. Design work includes a wide variety of transportation related facility project types and scale, including but not limited to architecture, renovation work, new buildings, and interiors work. Oversight and management responsibilities will include the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to assure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. In addition, the Senior PM will be responsible for actively managing client budgets, schedules, and programs; project communications and documentation; and project team assignments. Providing oversight and monitoring of work of less experienced staff across multiple disciplines as required. Estimating fees, defining scope of work, and preparing proposals and contracts. Other responsibilities include: 

  • Managing the overall preparation of project documents including finished plans, specifications, code review, and material approval.
  • Lead and manage the overall project work during construction including but not limited to construction administrative such as submittal process, field inspections, RFI’s, supplemental work (sketches/clarifications), or material approval process.
  • Assisting or leading project proposal pursuits and business development activities
  • Generates cost estimates and calculations in support of systems and components.
  • Manages project research to fulfill the design intent, budget, and specifications.
  • Capable of managing project / office standards and implementing constructive criticism to improve work product, development, and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Licensing requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture Degree or Bachelor of Science with a Master of Architecture preferred
  • Registered Architect in New York; NCARB certified is a plus  

Knowledge and/or experience 

  • Fifteen (15) or more years of progressive experience in an Architectural Office.
  • Direct experience working with local/regional transit agencies on station, maintenance facilities and other rail yard buildings/structures required
  • Strong knowledge of local clients and/or agency work (Amtrak, MTA, NYCT, LIRR, MNR, PANYNJ, NYDOT)
  • Strong knowledge of design software AutoCAD, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Revit
  • Working knowledge of Sketch-up, 3D software, Rendering software, and Photoshop
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Projects, and Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of Primavera and / or other scheduling software packages
  • Working knowledge of web-based construction administration and cost management tools
