RDC is an award-winning architectural firm with a diverse portfolio of work.  We are currently seeking a Project Architect to join our Store Planning Team. The ideal candidate will have experience working on retail and commercial projects across the US.  The position requires knowledge of commercial store design, good communication skills, and an ability to thrive in a team environment. An ideal candidate will be passionate, energetic, fast, and industrious.

Position Summary:

The Project Architect is a licensed architect competent in all conventional aspects of architectural practice with an emphasis on the technical implementation of the project design. The PA performs work requiring independent judgment and critical thinking, adapts firm and practice standards to project requirements and possess a diverse working knowledge of related disciplines. The Project Architect is responsible for leading the development of contract documents, and as such provides supervision and guidance for the project team.  

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited program preferred.
  • 8 or more years of experience in architectural practice or with a national retail chain providing store planning services.
  • Advanced experience with all phases of retail store planning, including site selections, preliminary design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Advanced experience managing the needs of retail clients, ability to communicate directly, and manage project deliverables.
  • Extensive knowledge of architectural detailing, current construction standards, and associated building trade collaboration process (design-build, design-assist, etc.). 
  • Extensive experienced in translating architectural concept design into contract documents, including specification coordination.
  • Extensive knowledge agency review processes, and ability to successfully complete the entitlement and permitting process with minimal aid and supervision.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction contract administration processes.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple project/locations across multiple accounts
  • Experience managing a team, mentoring junior staff, and providing training and guidance during project development
  • Proficiency in REVIT and other business software and their application to contract documents.
  • Effective English communication skills, conversational and written, for ongoing project collaboration and documentation.
