WHY Los Angeles seeks Intermediate Architect/Designer

Based in Los Angeles and New York, WHY was founded by Kulapat Yantrasast in 2004 and has established itself in the international design vanguard for widely-acclaimed projects that serve the arts, communities, and the environment. The 30+ person practice is structured as interdependent workshops —allowing us to approach projects from multiple angles to develop holistic, experience-driven solutions that are also provocative and unique. We continue to build these “ecologies of disciplines, to and expand our network of diverse thinkers, both within and beyond the studio.  We believe everyone has the potential to bring a unique perspective, multiplying the possibilities of a collaborative work environment.

We are looking for Intermediate Level Architects and Designers who are passionate about design, think multi-dimensionally and enjoy working collaboratively. Specifically, the Los Angeles office is building its Single Family Residential portfolio with some exciting new projects on the boards, while strengthening our cultural and institutional portfolios. WHY also participates in global competitions and special projects each year. 

Required Skills and Credentials:

  • A professional degree in architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • 4-6 years of work experience in an architecture firm.
  • Strong design and problem-solving skills. Ability to work well with different perspectives.
  • Strong listener with superior communication skills in English. Second languages are also a plus for our growing portfolio of international projects.  
  • Experience in all phases of projects, helping to generate and visualize concepts and then developing the design through detailing and documentation. Basic understanding of codes and industry standards. Experience in coordinating consultant work.
  • Experience working with clients.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, Lumion, Rhino & Vray.
  • Experience working in a design-intensive, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments; strong communication & organizational skills. Experience with professional communications with clients, consultants and all who interact with a project, from start to finish.

Additional Skills/Credentials that will be considered a plus

  • Licensure.
  • Experience leading workshops and presentations.
  • Experience in CA.
  • Project Management skills.

The position is salaried and will require a designated amount of physical presence in the office as we continue our phased reopening process . Compensation shall be commensurate with experience and demonstrated skill.  Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. WHY is a participant in the E-verify program.
