Workbench is a develop+design+build company dedicated to helping solve California’s housing crisis. This means creating housing and community places that are more affordable, more equitable, and well-designed for both human well-being and environmental sustainability. We build many housing types, from single-family homes to ADUs to small and large-scale multi-family housing and mixed-use projects, as well as build-out commercial spaces. Our specialty is creating housing that is more environmentally sustainable, including by using Passive House standards, and more affordable. We do this with increased effectiveness and efficiency in part by integrating development, design, and construction management in one company.

Skills, Abilities and Qualities:

This role requires an individual who is motivated, self-starting, organized, ownership minded, a team player with a positive influence who has the ability to inspire, motivate, collaborate with and develop others, as well as be an exceptional communicator both internally and externally.

The Studio Director must have strong leadership skills and the ability to delegate tasks to designers and technical professionals. An understanding of the inner workings of an architectural practice and experience in managing an internal and external team is a must.

A high level of design, technical and code competency, along with business development, scheduling and contract experience is required. Applicants should have large scale mixed-use and multifamily project backgrounds.

Skills Required -

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office - Excellent Written and Verbal Communication - Professionalism
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Architecture
  • 10-15+ years of architectural design. Previous Director level or above is a major plus.
  • Applicants MUST have large multi-family and commercial experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Studio Director duties and responsibilities:

· Oversee all architectural services.

· Direct all architecture-related operations and deliverables.

· Oversee all projects schedules, budgets, invoicing, and resourcing.

· Provide QAQC for all projects.

· Ensure that projects are delivered with design excellence, on time, at or above targeted profitability, and exceeding client expectation.

· Manage the design team efficiently toward deadlines and milestones.

· Step in and assist project teams in preparing architectural drawings, presentations and construction documents as well as coordinate the documents with project consultants and contractors as needed to meet project deadlines.

· Manage and track all new client intake

· Schedule initial new client meetings and pitch Workbench

· Write and follow up with proposals

· Participate in community events and act as a conduit between Workbench and our Community

· Actively work to connect and engage junior staff with the broader design community.

· Oversee all client relationships and agreements

· Maintain positive on-going client relations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
