 Job Description

 The Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative is a community design service of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Kent State University. Its mission is to improve the quality of the urban environment through technical assistance, research, education, and advocacy. The CUDC works with non-profit groups, community organizations and government agencies in a wide variety of urban design and planning projects, as well as undertaking various public programs and research initiatives focused on physical design and development issues. 

 The CUDC is seeking an Urban Designer with excellent design, graphics, and production skills, an interest in urban design education, and a commitment to public involvement in design processes.

 The Urban Designer will contribute to all elements of the CUDC’s operations, with the following specific responsibilities:

  • Working on urban design and planning projects for community clients.
  • Participating in research efforts of the CUDC.
  • Contributing to the Making Our Own Space (MOOS) design/build initiative for middle- and high-school students.
  • Developing base maps, infographics, sketch design alternatives, and final urban design products.
  •  Assisting in public workshops and design charrettes.
  • Contributing to the development of the CUDC’s public programs and advocacy activities.

In addition, the Urban Designer may participate in class discussions and the review of studio projects in Kent State’s graduate programs in Cleveland.

Minimum qualifications: Master’s or professional degree in architecture, urban design, planning, or landscape architecture and one year of related work experience.

Successful candidates must also be experienced in: Graphical Information Systems (GIS) mapping skills, digital fabrication skills, experience in youth education.
