Who We Are:

Established in 2016, Asheville, NC-based design studio Shelter Collective is seeking a talented and experienced Lead Interior Designer to join our team. Shelter's work includes new residential buildings, interiors, custom furnishings, and other special projects for both public and private spaces in Asheville NC and around the United States. We are a small but growing team with diverse interests and backgrounds.

Your Role:

We are seeking a motivated person with a minimum of 5+ years of interior design experience to join our team in a Lead Interior Design position. This person would report directly to the Principal Designers / Co-founders. We are an intimate studio and as such this position would work in a collaborative fashion on all stages of design development but with a focus on project management and delivery; one must be as capable and confident in putting together an InDesign material image concept sheet as they are working in CAD and building an FF+E schedule from scratch. Candidates must have strong leadership, project management, and presentation skills.  Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate interior design and furniture concepts from initial meeting through construction.

  • Design and draft overall space and furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior elevations, electrical layouts, construction & millwork details.

  • Develop and manage project schedules (FF+E, Appliance, Decorative Lighting, etc.)

  • Develop and manage all project specification sheets and project binders.

  • Develop and track all Purchase Orders

  • Lead client presentations and coordination meetings 

  • Delegate to and oversee junior team members

  • Develop and track project budgets and timelines.

  • Act as an intermediary between the design firm, vendors, and subcontractors including visits to project sites and vendor workrooms to oversee status & progress of fabrication and construction

  • Sample sourcing

  • Manage shipping & receipt of all purchased items from time of sourcing through to final installation, with special attention to deadlines and details. 

Requirements for this position:

  • Extensive project management experience

  • Possess an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while exhibiting initiative in management of all office-focused priorities 

  • Minimum of five years' experience in project management and interior design

  • Minimum education: Bachelor of Interior Design, Bachelor of Architecture, or Bachelor of Fine Arts 

  • Extensive knowledge of material, hardware, and furniture sources, showrooms and retail stores. 

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, 3D modeling, and hand sketching

  • Personality that thrives in a very close-knit team setting; excellent interpersonal skills and customer service sensibilities 

  • Exceptional level of attention to detail and a mastery of organizational and time management skills  

  • Dedication and intuition for great design, strong visual skills, with attention to detail, composition, light, color and form.

  • Calm, mature and professional with a good sense of humor. 

  • Self-motivated - able to work independently while always keeping the wider team in the loop.

  • Analytical with a proactive approach to problem solving.
