OBERMEYER Architecture is a small, creative studio located in Santa Monica, CA. We are seeking a qualified individual for the position of Project Manager.

Responsibilities extend to all facets of project delivery with expectations for design collaboration and skillful production in detail. Experienced candidates preferred although early-career candidates are welcome to respond if demonstrating exceptional capabilities.  Excellent communication skills will be essential along with self-motivation and confidence in working with project teams including consultants and clients. 

Our efforts to build a paperless studio on a cloud-based platform started long before social distancing restrictions were necessary in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.  In-office and jobsite attendance will be required as usual, however, remote office within Los Angeles or immediately surrounding areas may be acceptable.

  • Independently produce and manage all design, permit and construction documents and specifications.
  • Demonstrate project stewardship in coordination of consulting engineers.
  • Assist with bidding and negotiation.
  • Construction Administration services including regular meetings, responses to RFI’s, review of contractor payment applications, budget management, shop drawing review, detailing, client review, project closeout.
  • Coordinate project delivery schedule with consultants, client and or contractors.  

Job Requirements

  • Excel in architectural production in detail using BIM software and digital visualization tools.
  • Manage project and all documents on a cloud-based platform (Microsoft Teams)
  • Determine required approvals from authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Coordinate with consulting land-use and permit experts and expeditors.  (Our office no longer processes permits – all clients are expected to hire a consulting expeditor).
  • Office and job-site meetings (following COVID-19 pandemic guidelines).

Skillsets, Experience, and Capabilities

  • Master’s degree in architecture with approximately three years of work experience or bachelor’s degree in architecture with approximately five years of work experience and demonstrate excellent capabilities. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with permit processing (to better manage consulting expeditors)
  • Experience and capabilities in all phases of project delivery of various building types including high-end single-family residences, small commercial projects (15-50,000 sq ft creative office/tenant improvement, small-midsize hotel, and restaurant).
  • Capable of analyzing all aspects of existing buildings (foundations, framing, waterproofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc.).

Software and Hardware

  • Microsoft Office and Teams platform.
  • Experience in BIM software preferred.  Primary drafting and modeling production platform will be Graphisoft’s Archicad BIM software.  Archicad files are accessed online via their Teamwork tool and BIMcloud service.
  • Production in AutoCAD or Revit is possible but will be expected to migrate to the Archicad platform as soon as possible.
  • Optional software skills including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, Rhino and V-Ray.
  • PC or Mac based computer, as you prefer. 

 Compensation and terms

  • The available position will be full-time, salaried, and commensurate with experience and capabilities.
