Danny Forster & Architecture, a multi-faceted architecture firm based in New York City, is seeking a Project Designer to join our office. We’ve built a global reputation through our experienced yet inventive architectural, interior, and urban design; branding and corporate storytelling; filmmaking and production; and thought leadership in the realm of modular building. Our current projects include a Manhattan AC by Marriott that will be the tallest modular hotel in the world; a tower on Market Street in San Francisco; a 13-building resort development for the Shinnecock Indian Nation; and a long-term initiative (in partnership with Mitek Inc) to transform the field of modular construction and move the industry forward. We are equally committed to the residential side of our practice, with several extensive high-end projects underway in New York City.

We are looking for a mid-level interior/architectural designer who brings a strong portfolio and a strong work ethic; who wants to learn but also has much to contribute; who balances self-motivation with teamwork. The Designer will work closely with other designers and architects on the project teams to design, document and execute multiple projects from concept through to installation. The Designer will work with the Head of Interiors to select and document finishes, fixtures, FFE etc. They will also work collaboratively with other designers/architects to envision, design and document interior projects from concept thru to construction documents phase.They are responsible for the accuracy of their own work and the work of junior designers and interns to ensure the success of the project. Reports to the Head of Interiors.

An Interior/architectural Designer at DF&A

  • Brainstorms, critiques, develops, and implements project design concepts.

  • Assists in space planning, interior architecture and FF&E layouts and selection.

  • Produces detailed presentation decks, sketches, and renderings for presentation to clients and senior leadership.

  • Designs custom furniture and millwork and prepares detailed drawings of furniture for integration in specifications.

  • Responsible for preparing and issuing FF&E specifications packages; assembling information about selections and preparing.

  • Prepares schedules relative to the interior design including finish materials, decorative lighting, bath accessories, door hardware, door and plumbing fixtures.

  • Coordinates with the purchasing agent in answering questions and/or preparing information to answer questions for the design team and Project Manager.

  • Reviews and approves shop drawings and samples (both FF&E related and contractor related) with final approval by Head of Interiors and the Principal.

  • Coordinates with client, contractor, and project team, as appropriate per project.

  • Attends site meetings with owner, consultants and contractor inclusive of FF&E installation, as directed by Project Manager and/or Senior Designer/Architect.

 A Qualified Applicant Has

  • A bachelor or master’s degree in Architecture or CIDA accredited Interior Design program or equivalent

  • 5+ years of interior architecture or design experience, with a focus on high-end residential and hospitality design

  • Strong independent design point of view

  • Technical knowledge of construction documentation, millwork development, shop drawings review, and construction administration

  • Experience in writing FF&E specifications, FF&E matrices, and budgeting

  • Strong rendering and presentation skills

  • Some experience with NYC code

  • Project management experience

  • Total Revit fluency

  • Adobe and Google suite Fluency

  • Ability to travel upon occasion
