Key Responsibilities

The Project Manager will oversee a range of capital projects through all stages of planning, design and construction, ensuring that projects proceed in coordination with available funding sources, the Island operation’s needs, and the Island’s short-term and long-term real estate development plans. Specifically, the Project Manager will lead capital needs assessments, manage design teams and outside consultants, oversee permitting for projects, and manage the construction or rehabilitation of a mix of projects including historic building rehabilitation, Island-wide utility upgrades and maritime infrastructure projects such as ferries, seawalls and piers.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with DOB, FDNY, SBS, FEMA and other regulatory agencies on project application and permitting
  • Coordinating closely with the Trust’s Real Estate and Facilities/Operations teams
  • Working closely with the Trust’s CFO to oversee obtaining project approvals (“Certificates to Proceed”) from the NYC Office of Management and Budget and contract registrations with the NYC Comptroller’s Office for Maritime related projects, as well as overseeing compliance with other funders such as NYS and FEMA



Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, construction management, urban planning or similar field required; master’s degree preferred.

Required Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant field (architecture/engineering, capital planning, asset management, capital project management, maritime operations); experience with New York City budget, procurement and contracting systems preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong quantitative skills and proven ability to synthesize and present nuanced cost information to decision makers
  • Proactive and self-directed leader with an ability to create and maintain project momentum and juggle multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
  • Decision making skills commensurate with a position that is frequently required to represent the organization with external parties
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to synthesize complex issues, summarize and present them clearly
  • Ability to be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit who works well in a team-based environment with limited oversight
  • Possess a strong sense of professional judgment and ability to solve problems creatively including recommending phasing options and value engineering when project budgets are insufficient
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and BlueBeam preferred
