Lahmon Architects is looking for a skilled Job Captain to join our growing, award winning architecture firm respected for our process, as well as our product. We’re an architectural studio specializing in multi-family and mixed-use housing with extensive experience in publicly funded housing in the City of Los Angeles. Located in downtown Culver City, our office is metro adjacent making it easily accessible to and from the beach, DTLA and is within a short walk to great restaurants, art galleries, and other design firms.

Job Title: Job Captain

3-6 years of experience in architecture in Multi-family Housing; especially in the City and County of Los Angeles, CA. Experience in the design of affordable housing is a plus.

Job Summary

Job Captain should have working experience in schematic design through construction administration phases. Technical and leadership abilities to plan, organize, and manage the efforts of a production team to produce high-quality construction documents within an allotted time and budget. They should also be skilled in managing client and consultant relationships understanding when to defer to their supervisor. Candidates should also possess strong proficiency in Revit, an admirable knowledge of the building code (LABC), experience in construction observation, consultant coordination, and agency coordination. Standard technical knowledge needed for construction documentation is also a prerequisite.

Responsibilities and Duties

Primary team member responsible for the assessment and file management of all incoming and outgoing documents

Basic understanding of test fits/ pre-design studies for multi-family projects in the City of Los Angeles

Strong design abilities that meet the firm’s approach and mission in design

Ability to create a program as well as translate it into a sensible concept design

Responsible for the cartooning and creation of documents sets (under the supervision of the project architect)

Responsible for the accuracy of design and documents. Checking accuracy of cross references

Responsible to ensure the implementation of all client expectations and code requirements

Assist project architect/ manager in determining what is required for project delivery/ submittals and determining how to deliver them on time exceeding expectations

Responsible to maintain the accuracy of project data through document revisions

Ability to carry the design intent through documentation considering constructability and detailing making sure the design in intent is maintained with rigor

Responsible for ensuring documentation meets design intent, office standards, providing the ideal information to ensure proper execution by the GC.  

Responsible to point out any issues or questionable items to the team

Work with project architect/ manager to conduct design team meetings (consultant coordination)

Ability to accurately produce meeting minutes or review meeting minutes that maintain the office’s standard of professionalism

Responsible for consultant coordination under the direction of the project architect

Develop mentorship abilities to help develop designers

Responsible to enforce office standards and protocols

Assist with material selection, product research, pricing and in incorporation into the documents

Primary team member responsible for agency interaction and approvals. Should possess knowledge of local approval process

CA:

Responsible to foresee the design through construction via jobsite observations, i.e., ability to detect construction mistakes early on

Review RFI’s and Submittals along with project architect/manager 

Qualifications and Skills

Architectural Graduate or undergraduate with 3 or more years’ experience, ideally 2+ years’ experience in multi-family design

Admirable design skills required

Proficient in Revit and knowledge of Adobe Suite

Ability to design and create concepts by hand and electronically

Excellent verbal, written, organizational and coordination skills

Knowledge of building products, details, and quality standards

Must be well organized

Must have good working knowledge of construction documents

Should have basic understanding of building codes as it relates to Multi-Family projects


Salary: Commensurate with experience and skill, position is full-time with benefits (health insurance, dental and vision 100% paid, 401K matching and profit sharing). Candidates must live locally, need to be legal to work within the United States without sponsorship, and immediately available.
