Thoughtful Design Practice Seeks Multi-faceted Individual, with 5-9 years experience.

SHELTER is a growing, architectural and interior design firm. We are looking for a strong creative partner with an excellent eye for beauty, detail and functionality. We take a Shaker approach to our work; “Don’t make something unless it is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, don’t hesitate to make it beautiful”. We are drawn to materials and how they age; natural wood that is allowed to silver, metals allowed to patina, and walls with a little character, texture, life. In Praise of Shadows is a guiding text - the movement of light is important to our spaces. “The quality that we call beauty ... must always grow from the realities of life.”  If this aligns to your approach to communication and design, and you also are highly organized and self-motivated - you may be our person, and we may be yours.

We are seeking a diverse candidate for interdisciplinary design, interior architecture, construction drawing development and construction administration. We established SHELTER to pursue good design, a balanced life, and a participatory design process that is joyful.

Our work is in the wellness and hospitality space. We also do thoughtful residential work. All of our work seeks to provide sanctuary for the body.

The perfect collaborator would engage the philosophical, technical, social and environmental impacts of architecture, while producing clear design and construction drawings that retain a timeless sensibility and handmade quality.

Minimum qualifications are a fluid knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite. 3D rendering capacity and interior design experience is a plus. Speciality, tactile material expertise and hands on knowledge related to craftsmanship, wood-working, plaster work, Sho Sugi Ban are also most welcome.

Position is paid on an hourly rate, negotiable based on skills and experience. We are looking for someone who can work 30-40 hours per week, and we offer flexible time schedules. The position can also transition to full-time employment. Please include relevant work samples.
