A high-end interior design firm in New York is looking for an Intermediate Decorator with at least 5 years experience to work closely with Junior Decorators, Senior Decorators and Studio Directors to provide development, production support and co-ordination throughout the project delivery process as a member of the design team. A dependable, energetic individual with a “can-do” attitude and exceptional attention to detail, the Intermediate Decorator is responsible for supporting the efforts of the design team to ensure the successful completion of the project. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Deliverables
- Completes and files correspondence and drawing files.
- Ensures accurate meeting notes are taken and reported to team members.
- Weekly time sheet completion.
- Attends client meetings.
- Prepares project and installation schedules.
- Meets all deadlines for decorating deliverables.
- Prepares client presentations under the guidance of senior team members.
- Prepares specification packets and room sheets for presentation to the client.
- Researches interior trends and FF&E options.
- Oversees the facilitation of sample pulls, tracks their delivery, and ensures timely returns.
- Assists in organizing the sample library.
- Provides administrative assistance including filing.
- Creates templates as needed.
- Runs errands as needed.
- Uses computer-aided design (CAD) to prepare required layouts, floor plans, elevations, custom furniture drawings and lighting drawings required to convey decorating intent.
- Shops for all FF&E requirements including furniture, fabrics, lighting, wall and floor finishes, carpets and window treatments.
- Supervises installation of FF&E including arranging furniture, hanging window treatments and artwork.
- Assists senior staff with design development and materials research to produce fully coordinated room schemes.
- Assists in the supervision of junior decorators and interns.
- Corresponds with vendors to obtain accurate quotes for all FF&E requirements.
- Assists in creating budgets and tracking expenses against budgets.
- Creates purchase orders and client invoices to ensure timely delivery of project.
- Negotiates prices with vendors.
Industry Knowledge
- Follows and speaks to current industry trends on space, function, decorative lighting, fabrics, furniture and equipment, etc.
- Develops innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function and are reflective of client goals and within project budget.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Possesses a high taste level and has knowledge of high-end market with the ability to design custom furniture and lighting.
- Possesses excellent time management skills and is able to handle multiple project deadlines and make decisions in a fast-paced environment to take a project from design concept all the way through installation.
- Highly presentable, intelligent, confident and discreet with an outgoing, upbeat and confident demeanor.
- Proactive self-starter who is goal and detail-oriented with exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Proficient in the use AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office programs. Studio Designer a plus.
- Possess sound knowledge of interior design principles/practices.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated work experience with Interior Design and/or Architectural Firms.
