Production Drafter

We are looking for a skilled, design-firm-experienced, and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Production Drafter. The ideal candidate is team oriented, technically proficient, works well with deadlines, focuses on the project at hand, and is driven to help support a small creative design firm with a bent toward sustainability. Proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe creative applications is a must. This position begins at 30 hours per week with the potential to become full-time as the year progresses, and depending on interest and skill set, could develop into a design or job captain position in the future.

 Position Responsibilities  

Project Drafting and Support

  • Assist with pre-design research into relevant zoning code, building code, and permitting process requirements for projects.
  • Travel as required to record existing site conditions, establish context familiarity, and attend meetings.
  • Attend meetings with clients, consultants, etc. Take and transpose notes into template.
  • Collaborate with project managers to integrate suitable sustainable strategies into design.
  • Support project managers with initial document setup and production as directed.
  • Coordinate schedule with project managers to meet production process deadlines.
  • Produce appropriately detailed design development and construction documents in accordance company’s standards of excellence.
  • Calculate energy code and ventilation requirements and fill out forms and schedules.
  • Prepare permit application materials as appropriate for project jurisdiction.

General

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years technical training in architectural drafting, or a BA in a related field with 1 year of drafting coursework
  • Minimum 2 years of experience creating residential scale projects in an architecture office or design department of a design-build firm
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2D, SketchUp Pro, and Adobe applications
  • Clearly understand architectural drafting standards to create permit-ready documents
  • Experience applying local and regional building, zoning and energy codes
  • Comfortable quickly learning and utilizing new technologies related to the position
  • Responsive and cooperative, customer and team service-oriented attitude
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, ask for help when needed, and welcome guidance for improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly communicate with clients, staff members, project partners, and management
  • Accurate and thoughtful time keeping and reporting
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and stay focused both in a storm and in a calm 

Compensation and Benefits

This position begins at 30 hours per week with the potential to become full-time as the year progresses. The base wage and bonuses are commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, retirement savings, a flexible work schedule, mostly virtual workplace, 10% annual paid time off, 50% professional dues and paid continuing education seminars.
