Senior Project Architect - Single Family Residential Design

McBride Architects is seeking to hire a Senior Project Architect for their Single Family Residential practice. The Senior Architect will serve as both supervisor and source of knowledge. This individual will oversee the work of others as well as act as a liaison to solve problems across multiple parties when they arise. The Senior Architect will be the north star in guiding a construction project soup to nuts, from design to reality. Please read more below as we’d love to review your application should your background and ambitions align with it! If you are interested in applying, please provide your email address to be in direct contact with you should your profile be a fit.

Why McBride?

Mcbride is one of the premier boutique residential Architecture and Design Firms. While working on high-profile and stylistically diverse projects, McBride has prided itself on facilitating a familial and convivial culture. At McBride, you are entrusted to have autonomy with your given responsibilities, however, you are never on an island, and can rely on your co-workers to help when in a bind. At McBride, we like the people we work with, and believe that the familial feel only strengthens company morale, employee output, and day to day professional and personal satisfaction.

The Senior Project Architect will be responsible for:

Tackling Complex Projects

Because of this role’s seniority, the Senior Architect will often get assigned the most challenging projects. For instance, they will likely design and shepherd multiple residential projects from concept through to completion. Estimating costs, choosing materials, creating a time framework, and scheduling workers are some of the necessary tasks.

Seeking Input

Senior Architects interact with various people. They talk with clients to learn about their needs and objectives. They discuss ideas and strategies with other company leaders. They solicit feedback from their team. They bring in consultants as needed to provide specific expertise.

Ensuring Compliance

Plans must not only please the client but also comply with government regulations and zoning codes. Senior Architects make sure that what is being constructed is both legal and safe, which may involve research and consulting experts such as engineers and fire inspectors.

Monitoring Work

Actions among the various individuals and groups contributing to a construction project need to be coordinated to stay on track and on budget. Senior Architects help to supervise and maintain workflow so that schedules do not get interrupted. When consultants are brought in, Senior Architects look over their designs and suggestions to see how they fit in with the overall project.

The right candidate will possess:

  • 10-15 years of architectural/design experience in addition to a BA (or higher) in a related field

  • Licensure in their state as an Architect (preferred, not required)

  • Ability to lead/manage a team when serving as lead on high visibility projects

  • Clear communication, ensuring that information gets delivered accurately across clients, stakeholders, and external vendors (designers, contractors, consultants, etc.)

  • A knack for listening to others to solicit opinions, spot potential pitfalls, and confirm everyone is on the same page

  • The instinct to provide feedback to subordinates to keep them motivated and to rectify small problems prior to becoming large ones

  • Ability to multi-task in order to prioritize competing demands

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure safety and legality of projects

  • Industry knowledge in response to new technology, best practices, and changes in codes

  • Ability to put together full working drawing sets including knowledge of interior and exterior, detailing, millwork, and finishes
