Big Picture:

  • Deeply comprehend, keep up to date, and effectuate design standards across projects in design, development and construction across the portfolio, working closely with the Director of Design.
  • The Design Associate is responsible for keeping the following documents up to date with Director of Design’s oversight: The Specification Manual, the Apartment Design Standards, the Amenity Design Standards, and the BOH/Operations Design Standards. 

Responsibilities During Design:

  • Review and markup architectural and interior design drawing documentation for conformance to design and specification standards.
  • Apply furniture design standards to apartment units through production of plans with furniture layouts.
  • Budgeting and managing specifications of FFE for amenities and apartments.
  • Manage and execute project specific renderings with 3rd party vendors.

Responsibilities During Development:

  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, samples and mockups that have been sent the Design Team for design intent review by the project’s Development Associate.
  • Support the project’s Project Manager during the punch process to ensure the Design Standards and Design Documentation are properly executed in the field. Create a feedback loop and patch Design Standards when necessary. Out of state travel to our projects in development is required. 
  • Support the project’s Development Associate and Project Manager in ensuring the design intent of art and other specialty installations is communicated to the Development Team and properly executed in the field. 
  • Support the Director of Design by reviewing on-site furniture installations for conformance to the design documents and specifications.

  • Can effectively weave together their interests & skills and develop concepts with technical tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bluebeam Revu, Revit/CAD, hand sketches, etc) to express concepts/ideas in a visual format (digital presentation, 3D model, etc).
  • Is able to think at various scales (conceptually/big picture down to small details required for execution).
  • Is able to think in various dimensions (spatially, programmatically, temporally). 
  • Values team rapport. 
  • Has exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

  • 3+ years of experience producing and quality controlling design documents at either an architecture or interior architecture firm. Previous experience with Revit (or equivalent) is required.
  • Strong grasp of Bluebeam Revu (or equivalent), Excel, and InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Not only want to create amazing product but are willing to endure the challenges and effort that come with that.
  • Are the most detail-oriented, yet creative person they know.
