Scherer Construction is seeking a Project Architect to join our team.  We are a Design/Build firm in Gainesville Florida, with a well-established presence in the community (since 1984), and a good backlog of repeat clientele that appreciate the value of working with a cohesive team of designers and builders striving toward the same goals on a project.  The ideal candidate will have the experience and capability to design and manage a variety of commercial projects with a wide range of scope through the entire project life cycle.  You can expect to work on churches, banks, office buildings, restaurants, retail, and storage, from small renovations to large new construction, with budgets typically ranging from $1 to $5 million and occasionally $10 million or more.  You will have opportunities to work on projects as part of a team or individually, depending on the scope, and be afforded a good deal of autonomy through design and production of contract documents.

  • Lead the design team
  • Produce design and construction documents
  • Act as point of contact for all technical issues on a project
  • Coordinate with the D/B team to ensure that the design intent is carried through in construction
  • Contribute to marketing efforts, including proposals, presentations, and interviews
  • Negotiate project fees, prepare fee proposals, and assist in writing contracts
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience
  • Licensed in the State of Florida and willing to sign and seal projects for permitting
  • Strong background in construction detailing and understanding of materials and methods
  • A good understanding of building codes and the permitting process
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is a must
  • A working knowledge of office software such as Word, Excel, Adobe, Blue Beam, etc.
  • Good communications skills, both spoken and written
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Effectively work individually or as part of a team
  • -Collaborate with and manage consultants
  • -Coordinate and establish project requirements with the Owner
  • -Supervise drafting on a project
  • -Select materials and products; specify in the drawings or assist in writing a project manual
  • -Provide quality assurance on all documents produced
  • -Deliver projects on time and in budget and make a profit
  • -Visit construction site as needed, answer RFI’s, and review submittals
  • -On track to obtain licensure will be considered
  • -Capability in SketchUp, PhotoShop, and other graphic programs a plus
  • -Able to prioritize multiple tasks
