Rice Fergus Miller is seeking a Planner/Project Architect to join our Fire & Emergency Services Team.  This individual will have strong project management and production skills gained from working on all phases of complex projects, and with a passion for public safety and civic projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lead programming and planning discussions with clients, drawing upon previous experience, thinking creatively, and serving as a trusted advisor
  • Ability to quickly grasp and resolve complex design issues in collaboration with clients and team members
  • Possess a strong understanding of building codes and materials
  • Possess a strong understanding of building costs in making design decisions and advising clients
  • Effectively partner with jurisdictional staff, project teams and clients
  • Work through all phases of project delivery from programming, concept development and production of work, through construction administration and project close out
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the client on planning and design
  • Build positive relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and performance standards of the organization

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Architecture from an accredited program, Master’s a plus
  • Extensive hands-on experience on public works, civic and public bid projects
  • Licensed Architect
  • 15 years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including honest, direct, and constructive communication with team members, clients and consultants
  • Familiarity with spec writing
  • Proficient with Revit
  • Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite\
  • Rhino & SketchUp a plus
