RELA, PC is seeking a dynamic Project Architect to grow with us. We’re a small, established architecture firm in Lower Manhattan focused on residential and commercial work, primarily in Manhattan. Current projects include multi-family apartment building improvements and several apartment renovations. Other work includes office, retail and peer reviews for condominiums and coops. Firm members are involved in a variety of functions and tasks in a relaxed and supportive environment. As a Project Architect you must have proven experience performing and coordinating all aspects of the design, production and contract administration process, including skillful client and consultant communications. The successful candidate must be demonstrably organized, curious, enthusiastic and self-motivated. You will be involved in most aspects of the firm’s work including site surveys and programming; building code and zoning analysis; conceptual design, schematic drawings and 3D modeling; project design, detailing and contract documents; and construction administration including site visits, project meetings and reports.

Qualified candidates’ previous project management experience should encompass high-end  residential design; coordinating deliverables, scheduling team members, reviewing and approving contract bids, change orders and payment requests, responding to RFIs, leading and minuting site meetings, and issuing regular status reports to clients and the project team. You must already know how to coordinate and produce detailed architectural drawing sets, specifications and construction documents, and must meet or exceed the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor or Master of Architecture professional degree from an accredited school
  • 6+ years professional experience including 3 years managing architectural projects
  • Licensed professional or a New York State license in progress
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Revit and AutoCAD advanced user
  • Microsoft Project, Photoshop and 3D modeling software proficient
  • Windows or Mac OSX capable
  • Good understanding of contracts, construction codes and zoning
  • Creative presenter at ease communicating with clients and speaking in public settings

Office Culture
RELA remains a small firm by choice, and tends to have between four and six full-time employees based on work load. We typically have a mix of residential, commercial office and consulting projects for institutional, commercial and private clients. Our collegial culture is respectful of each person’s knowledge, experience and unique background and we aim to keep it that way. RELA has a very flat organization and all employees perform a variety of functions based on project and firm priorities.

Our office is located within New York’s Financial District in a 1920s mid-rise building designed by Starrett & Van Vleck for Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company. The office features roomy workstations with space to spread out drawings and samples and can accommodate 10 or more people during a charrette. It has a well-equipped conference room, plotter and an eat-in kitchenette where freshly brewed tea and coffee, other beverages and snacks are always available. The office is easily accessible by public transportation via MTA’s Fulton Street Transit Hub and the PATH World Trade Center Terminal, which are just a few blocks away.

RELA responded to the Novel Coronavirus by expanding home officing options, improving remote work technology and advising clients on safety protocols in residential and office buildings. Our office was closed between mid-March and June 21st, consistent with NYS guidelines. Presently, two or more employees work in the office on any given day, and we work from home one or two days a week.
