NEST is a family-owned design/build firm based in Seattle's Rainier Valley. Our small team is committed to an iterative design process that allows for the architectural phases to work their magic.  The goal is high concept, high performance buildings, imbued with insightful and intriguing design solutions, all via close collaboration with our project team of trusted collaborators and committed clients. We design between 7-12 projects a year, usually building between 3-5 projects a year.

We are looking for a talented and self-motivated designer/architect to join us. An ideal candidate is passionate about how space, function, and aesthetics define and shape us and the buildings we inhabit. To this end, we work together closely to serve our clients and our highest vision for the future. We promote a culture that balances responsibility with mentorship and teamwork with expression. We provide an environment geared towards growth, searching in every project for the opportunities to better ourselves, our clients and the world at large. An ideal candidate will enjoy and thrive wearing several hats - as is necessary in a small practice: designing projects, maintaining quality control, defining the path to permitting, joining client meetings, creating marketing material, participating in community info sessions, etc.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

  • 5+ years experience in residential design

  • Professional degree in Architecture or Design

  • Experience working within a design/build paradigm

  • Expertise in SDCI residential permitting

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and graphic communication skills

  • Sense of humor and positive attitude

  • Ability to flourish in highly collaborative culture

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe CS

  • Rendering skills a plus (hand sketching and artistry are great as well)

Requirements: (ideal candidates have at least one of the following)

  • License to practice architecture in Washington State

  • Hands-on experience in construction or fabrication (2+ years)

  • Certification with PHIUS (Passive House)

  • Work closely with principals and team to design and manage all projects, from Pre-Design through Construction Administration

  • Digest a project’s goals and constraints, develop an approach for the architectural requirements to move the project forward -  build trust, create revenue, define scope

  • Collaborate on and help implement marketing and social media presence, as well as community events and representation

20-40 hours/week. Flexible work hours and location. Our office is located in Columbia City, very close to public transportation and fantastic amenities. Salary dependent on experience, productivity and talent :)

Thank you for your interest in our firm!  We look forward to hearing from you.
