We have an opportunity for a Specifications Writer based in our dynamic Downtown L.A office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides resource for technical questions and for material and product selections.
  • Prepares project manuals for select highly complex projects with project types including educational, commercial, high rise, hospitality, tenant improvement, etc.
  • Interpret architectural, engineering, and contract documents (drawings and specifications) and assist the Project Manager in locating information particular to the project.
  • Write documents, official communications to clients, agencies, consultants, and construction entities, manage presentations related to construction documents, and communicate with other architecture professionals.
  • Coordination with design team members, including consultants and builders/trade partners on alternative delivery projects.
  • Process RFIs and Submittals, and guide other team members in this effort.
  • Manage changes to specifications through construction working with a construction administrator.
  • Manage the development of other professionals in specifications writing.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • 10 – 15 years in architectural profession with 3-5 years minimum dedicated specification writing for various building types.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required.
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills.
  • Is a highly collaborative individual.  Must be able to work well with & communicate effectively with Project Managers, contractors, project team members, vendors, & clients.  This is a key component to the success of the project and overall team success.
  • Possess a collaborative spirit with a strong desire to work with others to solve design, technical and construction issues as they arise on the project.
  • Extensive experience working with teams in the coordination of specifications and design/construction documents from conceptual designs through construction for mid- to large- scale projects.
  • Knowledge of codes and experience in successfully gaining approvals through agencies having jurisdiction as it relates to specifications.
  • Experience in alternative delivery, such as Design-Build, is desirable.
  • Technical experience on projects as a production/technical lead, project architect, or other role involving the development of coordination of technical documents for project through Construction Document, Permitting, Bidding and CA phases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed architect; California preferred.
  • CSI Construction Documents Technology certification (CDT), minimum.
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
  • LEED AP, BD+C preferred.
