Lake|Flato Architects is a nationally recognized architectural design firm based in San Antonio, Texas. A leader in sustainability, we are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive professional who could immediately fill the full-time Design Performance Coordinator position. The position of Design Performance Coordinator is a key part of the Design Performance team, informing firm-wide design performance efforts for projects, including post-occupancy evaluation, certification processes such as LEED, and project-specific performance goals. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert to project teams and staff, providing information and expertise regarding sustainability strategies, integrated systems, material health, innovative products, and building performance modeling and evaluation. This will be performed while coordinating with project teams to ensure an integrated design process. This position is directed by the firm’s Director of Design Performance and works closely with other Lake|Flato design performance experts on not only project work, but in the implementation of internal initiatives including, but not limited to: The integration of performance into design efforts; tracking and reporting key performance metrics; staff training and resource development; and promoting environmental responsibility across the firm’s operations.

  • Coordinate with design team members during all project phases. Provide project team support by performing energy and daylighting simulation, charrette administration, sustainability certification documentation, and post-occupancy evaluation.
  • Develop and maintain in-house design performance tools and methods under the direction of the Director of Design Performance.
  • Develop and present topics for staff education and grow firm-wide resources aimed at promoting internal education of high-performance project strategies as applied to various project types.
  • Help track and maintain project design and postoccupancy data required for 2030 Commitment reporting, AIA Honor Awards, and other industry recognition programs.
  • Coordinate regular publication schedule for social media on design performance topics.
  • Maintain knowledge of all state and federal regulations and relevant professional standards and keep abreast of the latest advancements and strategies around holistic building performance solutions. Desired background: • Degree in engineering, architecture, environmental studies or related field with 1-5 years of relevant professional experience in the A/E/C industry.
  • LEED (or equivalent) accreditation with specialty with experience managing sustainability certification processes and working with LEED Online. Knowledge of multiple sustainability rating and certification systems such as WELL, SITES, Living Building Challenge, and PHIUS preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing sustainability concepts and strategies as demonstrated through actual project or program work.
  • Proven effectiveness coordinating with contractors, architectural teams, and consultants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Rhino, and Revit.
  • Experience with building performance simulation preferred including but not limited to daylighting, parametric energy analysis, and life cycle cost analysis.
