Architectural drafter

Summary of Position:

We are growing design-build firm working in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. 

We are a small team looking to add a part-time, project-based drafting person to help us deliver on our projects, mainly single family homes and interior renovations.

The right candidate will play a key role in the ongoing development of our workflows and drafting systems, and increase duties to participate in project management and support in the field. 

15-20hrs/week assumed to begin with, with potential to grow into a full-time position, starting at $30/hour, as soon as possible.

Requisite Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years experience in an architecture firm.
  • Knowledge of residential construction practices and California Building Codes
  • Understanding of the typical residential permit application process
  • Any degrees or formal training in architecture/engineering/construction industry a major plus

Key Skills Needed for Position:

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with VectorWorks in addition to typical software applications, such as google docs, excel, calendar and other drafting software. (We are a Mac based office.)
  • Ability to integrate redline drawings and revisions from permitting/engineering 
  • Understanding of standard residential design and zoning code terminology
  • Comfortable speaking on the phone with clients and other professionals related to our projects
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on other duties as they arise. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • The position will focus primarily on drafting both conceptual and technical drawings for residential remodels and new construction projects. 
  • The position will require review of applicable zoning codes, verification of available property data, and project compliance with applicable codes.
  • Calling local city and county planning/building departments for clarification about applicable requirements and regulations when needed.
  • Accompany Principals in the field if necessary.
  • Must reside in the SF Bay area and be available to work during normal office hours on weekdays from 9am to 5pm as well as some weekends.
