Katz Architecture is a ten-person architecture and design firm recognized for innovative, thoughtful design and technical expertise. We are seeking an ambitious, energetic Intermediate Project Architect to join our staff. Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic team player, excited about design and construction. We are looking for an inspired fast learner with strong design ability, excellent communication skills and five to ten years of experience. This is a role with wide responsibility and growth potential in a stimulating, fast paced, and fun office.

Katz Architecture specializes in the design of  both new and renovation projects and innovative problem solving. Our projects include high-end retail spaces, museums, brownstones, residential apartments, historic interiors, exterior restoration, full-building gut renovations, and expansions. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Run a variety of projects from initial design investigation through construction completion
  • Assist in the development of design for residential and commercial projects
  • Produce presentation packages and complete construction document sets
  • Coordinate the work of outside consultants
  • Meet with clients and contractors
  • Guide and coordinate submissions to municipal agencies
  • Research code and zoning as required to develop design solutions
  • Manage junior staff and track assignments
  • Develop exterior facade and roofing details for new construction and restoration projects
  • Space planning
  • Millwork design and detailing
  • Obtain bids and level pricing
  • Review shop drawings and submittals
  • Attend construction meetings, take minutes, and develop reports
  • Work closely with firm owner and senior staff

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • Five to Ten years of experience in the office of a registered architect
  • Strong evidence of design sensibility
  • Experience in all phases of work from schematic design through construction administration
  • Experience coordinating multiple consultants
  • Ability to analyze, simplify and resolve design problems
  • Renovation and high-end residential experience in NYC
  • Experience with millwork detailing
  • Advanced comfort and proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of design and construction team
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with exemplary verbal and written communication in English
  • Culturally curious
  • Must be legally able to work in the US
